you'll also see people pace the floor when talking indoors as well as when talking on a cordless phone at home...
some people just think better when they're moving when they're standing when they're talking on the phone...it's nothing more than an annoying habit...
ALMOST as annoying as someone who doesn't know how to talk on a cell phone, they have to SHOUT....so dumb!

For many years before mobile phones were a viable technology, people only talked on the phone in their homes or offices. This enabled them to sit down and not worry about how they looked while on the phone.
Now, with the ability to talk anytime, anywhere, people don't know what to do with their body while on the phone. The most common practice is pacing back and forth because its an easy, repetitive motion that people can accomplish without having to think about what they are doing.

It's the term 'mobile'. I'm sure these people unconsciously believe that the phone wont work unless it is moving.
The mobility reference is regarding the ability of the phone to be at the same place as the user at any given time. When it rings and is answered, as a matter of common decency, the user should move out of the way of danger and to a location not obstructing other people instead of wandering about with the thing and getting under everyones feet.

Basicaly because the vioces in your head are driving them insane. Could you be so blind? We have all been doing that because of you and you alone. You do know that I'm not joking right? See we narrowed it down to a few people, then we figured out it was you. Even when you are asleep, we can still here your voices. It is driving people crazy. When you see us, we act one way. To everyone else we are different. The problem is, when ever you see us, we notice and start changing our behavior. We are all psychic and aware of you at all times. You are such a pain to deal with, but we are spying on you all the time. We know everything about you, and we are tired of you freaking us out. The peolpe of the Earth asked me to go online and tell you this, but don't worry... we are not going to harm you. We just want you to try something, try sweating less. The scientists think it is because you are sweating oddly that you are such a freak. Another thing, please don't think about the peace sybol or the French, that **** is getting really anoying. Other than that, try not to be paranoid of us. Don't ask any questions. Everyone will just laugh at you and eventualy call you crazy and lock you up. Try not drinking water so much, Ghandi drank his urine,so try that.

I do it too, I feel like I am not doing anything productive unless I am moving and at least this way while talking on the phone I am getting some form of exercise and it keeps me focused on not worrying about how much time I am spending on the phone, it is also a mobile device, therefore I can multitask.
I like this question, it made me actually LOL!

I often do that. I think it is because it's not comfortable to stand still (at least not for me). When someone is walking or standing somewhere (especially outside) when they receive a phone call they may not necessarily have a place to sit down, but aren't comfortable standing still either, so they pace around a little.

I don't usually do that unless there's a weak signal and I have to move to find a better spot. That may actually be what people are doing. Otherwise, I prefer to sit down when talking on a cell.

I am not sure. I don't pace while on the phone in public, however, I am real bad to do it at home. I am not sure why I do it.
