Unconditional love. Which is love with no exception, and no ending. Not one person I've met has done that. Though I'm learning how. And it's not from religion or faith.

Love without judgement or reserve. Universal compassion. Being able to have compassion and empathy for serial killers and warmongers, along with the innocent and exploited. Realising that you can never judge another, because you have no idea what has happened in his or her life to come to this point, that we are all born pure, and are victims of genetics, our experiences, and our upbringing.
Not to be confused with romantic love, which is born of physical attraction and chemical changes in the brain, but hopefully turns into deep friendship before the attraction fades.
Essentially, while romantic love is an animal reaction, true love is a choice we make as free willed entities.

I'l give you an example. A little old lady in our apartment is about 85 years old.
Yesterday we had an ice storm. At 10:00 AM as usual, she went down to the car. She spent 20 minutes, cleaning of the ice. then she went to the nursing home to see her husband.
Later, I asked her why she went out on such a bad day, Her reply.
"Sixty years ago I made a promise to the man I love. I promised that nothing would change my love for him. Even though he is in a nursing home, and doesn't really know me, my love for him is much stronger now than when we married. "
A human example of true love.

Eternal and true passionate affection and desire for the other person. Wishing and hoping and working towards THEIR happiness and they do the same for you. That is TRUE love. Combined with trust, tolerance, respect and deep commitment. It exists only ONCE between two people. That is what I believe.

1 John 4:11-12 This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loves us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Love is not a feeling. It is the act of making sacrifices for the benefit of the other

In my opinion, "true love" is a concept made up by people in order to mutually (and not-so-mutually) take advantage of one another. In other words, unconditional love is a fairy-tale.
