Marines basic is 13 weeks long, Army basic is about 6 to 9 i don't know exactly, Ranger's are the elite unit within the army very hard to get into unless your in top physical condition. The marines have Marine Recon which pretty much do the same thing as the rangers, The Marine's and army are pretty much the same beside the marines do not have thier own medical personel they use navy docs as medics, Both Have Cook's, Artillery and an Aviation Field you can join. It all comes down to which one you would rather do. They both have ups and downs but myself i am in the Marines, We only have 8 onth deplyments and 12 to 18 months back in the states, The Army is going 12 on and 12 off. So look into all of that kind of stuff if the reason you are asking is you are thinking about joining

Rangers are part of Special Operations Command, a amall highly trained unconventional force. Marines are part of the Rapid Deployment Forces, along with the Army's XVIII Airborne Corps. And the conventional Army, is well, conventional..

Edit: Rangers and Force Recon, are not even close to being the same thing, as someone has led on to. Not even Ranger Reconassaince is the same. Force recon does not have the ability, or the assets that allow them to take down whole airfields, or to take direct action missions. They are apples and oranges..

the marines are a totally seperate branch. the rangers are a part of the army, they are just highly trained and specialized. the rangers are a very elite program that you have to be selected for, and it is open to males only as it is an infantry unit.
