To everyone has said that we HAVENT stopped any before... we'll we have..
"Project Bonjinka"
was exposed in 95' when Phillipene officers spoiled a plot to have 11 devices put on simotanious American aircraft, they were to have the planes blow up over the Pacific, and TWO islamic fundmentalists, were to fly planes into the CIA headquarters, and another was to fly a plane into the PENTAGON..
There were THREE people convicted of this plot in a NEW YORK court in 97'
So the excuses they couldnt defend cause they couldnt have possibly known people would take such extremes to attack us.. is well BS...
I will give people its not possible to protect the WHOLE country... but we didnt get attacked over the WHOLE country, It was at the finacial and military hearts of the country... and thats what im talking about about being able to defend... Those were not "isolated" areas... they are WELL KNOWN targets, if people were allowed to do thier job, we might have had a different outcome.

There will always be weak points in any country's defense capabilities. There will always be people prodding at those weaknesses to try and find a way through. So far no one's found a way through America but we cannot defend every asset we have. Terrorist use guerrilla tactics against us which is something that has been used for centuries for a much weaker force to soften a much stronger force. You should be worried because they are always looking for something that will hurt us. I hope that Americans are as vigilant as they were after 9/11 because the pressure is never going to decrease. If anything we have more enemies now than ever, some more silent than others.
It's very possible that someone could hit the US again in a spot where we weren't looking but for someone to even think of gaining a foothold on American soil, impossible in a conventional war.
America is my home and I will fight to the death for her if I have to. I'm sure millions of other Americans feel the same way which is the main reason why a conventional invasion is impossible against the US.

We can only defend after attack. If this administration were a bit more honest, it would tell you that we can only try to prevent the sort of things that go on in the Middle East. How do you stop a single man from blowing himself up at the entrance to a university and killing 100 as they did yesterday? How do you stop a Mc Veigh from blowing up a building in Oklahoma? You really can't, not with wire tapping, or mail opening, or financial record spying. We did stop one that I know of, on the west coast in 1999, due to an observant border crossing guard. But that was during the Clinton presidency and before 9/11. We should have used the money we had to make improvements in our security, but instead we used it and more to go to war on Iraq. Bush seemed to want to be remembered more as a 'wartime president' than a 'improved border security' kind of guy. No where in his play book did 'loser' come up.
Forget any idea you may have that you wouldn't hear about the arrest and conviction of a terrorist or terrorist cell, they would trumpet it from atop the White House, its great PR and they would convince you that letting them under your skirt and into your mail is what kept you safe. Remember those morons from Miami? And all the other arrests? We'd hear it loud and clear.

I have little doubt that attacks have been planned and attempted on US soil but have failed. But why announce this to the world and then present the opportunity for analysis of how the attacked were defeated. Strategy 101; don't give the enemy information.
As for how do people penetrate our defenses? We have a massive open boarder to the north and a boarder to the south that lets in thousands of illegal immigrants every month plus we don't stripe search everyone coming into the country legally. Statistically some will get in.

well, there are conspiracy theories that all those you mentioned were really covertly executed by the government itself. I know History channel did a special on Pearl Harbor, that said the government set it up so the American public would willingly get involved in the world war. 9/11 has quite a few videos that show it to be a controlled demolition of the two towers and building 7, with the pentagon being hit by a missile (round hole no wings), you can do searches on various video sources including yahoo, youtube, googlevideo etc. and make an opinion for yourself.
you are not being anti-american by asking questions, and second guessing. that is what you are suppose to do, otherwise it would be a dictatorship, not a democracy.

It is physically impossible to protect an entire country, use your head. Have you or your family ever had anything stolen? Have you ever been broken into ie... your house car office? Why did this happen did you not protect your self? This country has over 300 million people in it. You cannot control everything nor would I want the government to control everything. It is up to us the citizens of the USA to stand up and help each and every day. Not sit back and want the government to take care of us. And Bluesesh, it is people like you whom are paranoid and start conspiracy theories that keep this country in turmoils.

It is because the liberals are trying to downsize the military and weaken our defense and everyone is against war so if we try to defend ourselves everyone would get POed. Also, with such a large country and so much foreign trade it would be impossible to keep out all possible threats without crippling our own economy.

Do you mean historically or recently after 9/11?
No one has been convicted or indicted for any attempts at terrorism within the 50 States since 9/11. Hence there have been no plots uncovered.

Do you never read the news? We have thwarted many attacks.
The Millenium bomber was just in the news, and the plot in the U.K. were against planes full of people coming to the U.S., most of whom were Americans.
There are many more, but I don't have the time to sort through the search results.

No doubt the USA has thwarted attempts at terror attacks you may never hear of them because the intelligence gained may lead to other terrorists.
Terrorists are unreasonable individuals who must be killed.
Awareness and aggression towards them is the only way.
