i've met a guy recently through a friend who i really like...i know he likes me as he has spoken to my friend about it but the problem is he's really shy with girls and doesnt have the balls to tell me how he feels...normally i would take the bull by the horns and talk to him myself but he is the way he is because he was badly hurt by an ex in the past...so i dont wanna push things too hard...but how can i convince him that im nothing like his ex?

start spending time with him. If you both like each other things will develop naturally. No need to rush into it. Best friends when compatible make the best relationships. My first love and I ended up together in that fashion and it was the best while it lasted, but we were friends who spent most of our time together for more than a year before that. Do something really small like put your hand on top of his or lean your head on his shoulder while watching tv or sitting around listening to music, smile, look in his eyes ... being coy is a great way to get a shy guy (I am one), I love understated aggression personally. I push away from overly aggressive. Everyone is different though.

Simple... be pushy... Ie you ask him out and make the first move... thus showing him you dont bote and its ok to kiss and touch and look at you. that you wont call him a perve or similar.

Once he relaxes and feels secure with you he will loose the shyness and be all over you like a ocotpus and wanting to be all blokey.

Find excuses to get touchy like the can you rub on lotion, help me how to play pool/bowling etc, tickle figths, ice down back so he has to chase after you, play wrestling etc... twister.

Play nervous as in running hand slowly up his arm and down chest asking is he nervous... Nervous meaning stop. Then your turn... only you forget the word nervous and if he stops ask why... you didn't say nervous.

Or go cinema and put you arm around him so he puts his around you and nuzzle and alge body so he can reach further saying thats nice... or when he does kiss him then nibble his ear...

Or how about a game f stip poker or strip playstation game if you are late 15/16 +

Some guys are naturally too shy or have too much emotional baggage to chase after girls. it is a sad fact of life.
these sort of blokes are unlikely to have a stunning repertoir
to entice their next conquests.
If u r forward with him and confident he will feel flattered and may well open up, i.e. warm to you.
If he has real fear of rejection this would be the only way
forward for you.
I would take it real slow and try to gradually build up his
trust. the only way u can convince him that u r not like
his ex is thru his ongoing experience of u.
If he (and the wait possibly?) is worth it, i would proceed and i hope it works out for u both!
good luck

Maybe a blunt sassy "I was wondering when you'd get to asking me out." Sometimes being blunt works.

Ignore his ex. Do what you feel you want to do to get his attention.
