now, i know this question must have been asked many times before, but please take the time to give me a well thought answer.
i am asking this because i asked this questions to some colleagues of mine, one would not want to hear about it, shunting the whole idea away, and another colleague said no.when i asked why(i also said how can you with all that evidence), she said: "they where so big, how could they have died". so i went on explaining the ice age, evolution, etc... and then she said"maybe you are right", she is 60, i am 22. is it ignorance? please give me your views.

Ok! If your colleagues don't believe that dinosaurs existed then they presumably have some other explanation for the huge quantity of fossils that have been found around the world.
They must have an explanation for the carbon dating of these fossils. The strata of soils that surround the fossils that suggest changes in the environment that could have led to their extinction. And finally for the links between fossil species and current animals such as reptiles and turtles, horseshoe crabs and coelacanths.
The most common explanation apart from the scientific ones seem to be religious. Perhaps your colleagues are what some people call 'believers'. While there are more of them in the US I understand they are making an appearance in the UK too.
I suggest asking again. Tell them you are curious as to their views. If they are religious and their disbelief is based on 'creationism' I suspect they will be pleased to share their opinions and you can have a nice chat.
If not, I would guess ignorance and you're in for a boring time. Change the subject to Big Brother or something!

Whew, so many answers that blew my mind. For those people that prefer listening to the preacher over research, get a life and use the brain that God gave you. Dinosaurs did not live during the time of man. They never have. Dinosaurs predate mankind long before mankind was even a species on this planet. The earth is roughly ~6 billion years old. Mankind has only been around for a small fraction of that time. If you look at the timeline of the earth as a planet, 85% of that time is without man being here. Dinosaurs fossils are millions of years old. Mankind? No where near that time line. Adding dinosaurs to the Ark, etc is only a justification to merrit the creation myth of 7 days. Evolution is a theory and creationism is a belief and not a theory. It only takes one person to disprove a theory and so far, no one has been able to disprove evolution. Not one person. BTW, saying it is in the bible is not proof. It takes hard scientific evidence to disprove a theory and there are scientists that are Christians that try to disprove evolution. No one has been successful. But, scientific evidence disproves creationism on a regular basis.

What Happened To The Dinosaurs?
Author: John Whitmore
Although the monstrous creature was obviously a vegetarian, its size was overwhelming. Its hips could withstand the enormous force of each pounding step and its midsection was a mass of muscle. Its gigantic tail extended far behind him, not unlike a giant cedar tree swaying behind his body. Its bones were like steel girders with ribs like iron bars to support his enormous weight. This is the greatest creature to roam the swamps and rivers of the earth.
This article is one of many found within Mr. Malone's excellent book, Search for the Truth.
Is this a scene from the blockbuster movie, Jurassic Park? It could be, but it isn't. This description, which perfectly fits an Apatosaurus, is a paraphrased description taken from one of the oldest books of the Bible, Job 40:15-24. If dinosaurs have been extinct for 65 million years, how could a writer of the Bible have accurately described the appearance, food, and habitat of this creature?
The vast majority of books on dinosaurs are written from an evolutionary perspective which assumes that the dinosaurs died out 65 million years ago. The leading model for the demise of the dinosaur involves a large asteroid hitting the earth. Yet the most obvious alternative explanation is almost always ignored. Almost all fossils are the remains of creatures buried by water-borne sediment which has subsequently turned to rock. If this is due to the flood of worldwide extent, as the water flowed over all the land surfaces, animals would have been drowned and been buried by massive amounts of rapidly accumulating sediment. It is not all surprising to find a general lack of burial mixing between these very different kinds of animals due to local or ecological grouping.
Genesis 7:2 states that Noah saved two of every representative "kind" of land animal on the ark. Noah would have taken young specimens, not huge, older creatures. Dinosaurs would have emerged from the ark to inhabit an entirely different world. Instead of a warm, mild climate worldwide, they would have found a harsh climate which soon settled into an ice age. If climatic hardships did not cause the dinosaur's extinction, man's tendency to destroy probably did.
In the early 1900's on the Doheny expedition into the Grand Canyon, Indian cave drawings were found which closely resembled a duck-billed dinosaur. Legends from ancient China to ancient England have recorded descriptions of dinosaur-like creatures. The Kuku Yalanji aboriginal people have paintings which look exactly like plesiosaurs. These and other intriguing evidences seem to indicate that perhaps that age of the dinosaurs ended more recently than is commonly taught. Christians do not need to feel foolish about standing on Scripture in their understanding of the world around us. There is ample evidence to support the Biblical record. Evolution serves as the foundation basis for the religions of humanism and atheism. These world views are popular because man, instead of God, decides on rules and moral standards. Creation serves as the foundational basis for Christianity which acknowledges that all things were created by God, that we live in a fallen universe, and that it will be restored to perfection in the future.

Of course dinosaurs existed, there are many fossils to prove it. Not only that, there are cave paintings by early humans which show that dinosaurs existed at the same time humans did. Where do you think the stories of people fighting dragons in Europe (.e.g St George and the Dragon), and places like China which have their own stories of dragons and use the dragon as a symbol, got it from. Someone had a bright idea one day to invent a dragon because they thought it looked cool? No... they are tales of real events which actually happened. I personally think the loch ness monster is in fact a dinosaur. And we still have crocodiles and alligators too of course, they are dinosaurs.

Fossil evidence suggests that Dinosaurs became extinct before the biblical account of creation, therefore the two schools of thought cannot co-exist - you must choose between one or the other. Some believers would argue that any evidence of a pre-creation world was created along with the rest of it.
These are the same people that will tell you human cloning is impossible because the clone would "have no soul" - only god can create a soul. All religion is brainwashing and dangerous.

Well the Dino's died very possibly because of Noah's flood. It takes a lot of sediment and pressure all at one time to to make oil and other gases. Also, After the flood of Noah, the earth condition must have changed and thus many more plants and animals died. There have been ice ages, as well. No it is not ignorance but just set in her ways they way she was taught. May be a bit of closed mind.
The impact crater in Arizona and in the gulf of Mexico.
Back to the flood in Noah's day, the bible recorded this as an event that happened suddenly, it is possible no creature had much time to take shelter. Not to say what other event could of caused the flood anyway. There may be other circumstances not recorded like a asteroid hitting the earth, which could also caused an inversion effect and had an upper layer of water come down to the earth in the recorded manner.

Yes, I do. Some dinosaurs (and pterosaurs) may have been created in the fifth era listed in Genesis, when the Bible says that God made “flying creatures” and “great sea creatures.” Perhaps other types of dinosaurs were created in the sixth epoch. The vast array of dinosaurs with their huge appetites would have been appropriate considering the abundant vegetation that evidently existed in their time.—Genesis 1:21 ( So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good." ) New KJV
When the dinosaurs had fulfilled their purpose, God ended their life. But the Bible is silent on how he did that or when. We can be sure that dinosaurs were created by Jehovah God for a purpose, even if we do not fully understand that purpose at this time. They were no mistake, no product of evolution. That they suddenly appear in the fossil record unconnected to any fossil ancestors, and also disappear without leaving connecting fossil links, is evidence against the view that such animals gradually evolved over millions of years of time. Thus, the fossil record does not support the evolution theory. Instead, it harmonizes with the Bible’s view of creative acts of God.
Some of the older translations of the Bible at times use the word “dragons” to translate the Hebrew tan·ni·nim′ (“sea creatures, ). (Ps. 74:13--" Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. 148:7-- " Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps" Isa. 27:1-- "In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea." Am. Standard Version
The term “dragon” (Greek, dra′kon) is found in the Christian Greek Scriptures. Dinosaurs were the giants of the animal kingdom, a remarkable testimony to God’s power of creation. Only our Creator knows why the dinosaurs disappeared from the earth.

sounds like your 60 year old friend is not grounded in facts too well and was easily swayed - I think really the question you are more asking is about creationists vs evolutionist and how do creationists account for dinosaurs
I believe in creation but that is the creation of life not the creation of the universe - I believe in an old world (14 billion years) old life (dinosaurs and the such) new human life - but all life and the universe created by God - the 6 days in Genesis does not necessarily mean 6 24 hour periods - how do you have a day when the sun wasnt created yet?
anyway yes the dinosaurs are real then God decided it was time for them to go and created us

Yes, I have answered this many times, I am a Christian, Many don't believe in a Prehistoric Time period, I do, In Genises, 1:1 In the Beginning God created The Heaven & the earth. Read Gen. 1:28 & Gen 9:1 God tells Noah & Adam the samething & one thing was to REPLINISH THE EARTH, Replinish means to fill it up AGAIN., In the prehistoric time, There was dinosaurs, & cavemen & women, But those cavemen was not a son of God nor a daughter of God, & they did Not have a soul, This prehistoric time could have lasted millions of yrs. It was the testing ground for the animal kingdom & the angelic Kingdom, Satan was already a fallen angel at the beginning of the Prehistoric time, as Time went on, God saw that satan started to have the animal kingdom killing each other off, So God took this planet away from the relationship with the sun to cause a Ice age to destroy this prehistoric age, There have been palm leaves found under ICE in the North & South Pole, I just wonder where they came from, There was a perfect climate here at one time, In time God began to bring this planet back into a relationship with the sun to warm it back up to bring forth again Life, & In God's time he brought forth Adam & Eve, But they were a son of God & a daughter of God & had a soul, That serpent in the garden was an upright creature, That could talk & walk on 2 legs, He was a worker for Adam, He was not a snake nor the devil, But a highest form of the animal kingdom, He did not have a soul, Many thinks he was a snake, But we have to read the curse correctly, He was an upright creature until the curse, You can see him going down on his belly in Gen. 3:14, & God strip away his arms & legs. Then God cursed the woman reproductive organs , & he then cursed the Ground & Adam then had to work the land himself since he lost his helper,. Gen.3:18-19. There is also scriptures saying that God had reserved fallen angels in chains until the Judgement day, That is why The Saints will also judge angels, who are these angels, wicked fallen angels that fell in the prehistoric time,. I could go on all day on this, But you have to understand That These things did not come about by evolution, To show that THE SAINTS Shall Judge the world & angels, Read 1st Cor. 6:3 Read 2nd. Peter 2:4-5 & Read Jude verse 6
