Laugh it off - he's 13 and for the next five years it's likely he'll find everything you do and listen to far too embarrassing to think about!

real music is not a word your 13 year old will understand try listen to his music instead of Floyd and u2 then he may do the same as who wants to have a dad or mum who loves your music

This is just the beginning of him telling you that you're old. You've probably got the next 10 years of the same thing. Next thing on his list will probably be your fashion sense.

I teach music and the "real music" argument has to be dropped. Musical pleasure is soooooooo subjective. I like U2 more than rap, but I'd never accuse rap of not being real music.

Swap CDs though, he might like some of yours and vice-versa.

Happy listening ;o]

Old is a matter of perspective. Only "you" can tell you that you are getting too old. Keep on enjoying U2 and Pink Floyd. One day those word are going to boomerang on your son when your grandson tells him he is getting too old for the music he is listening too!

Stay young!

Point out you are who you are and liek what you like and it does not matter how old you are.

Point how how would he like it when hes older and people say he cant listen to rap.

Music is very important to people and its the same vibe no matter the age or music.

Remind him if the songs he likes now he will do later and be into newr stuff later as well.

That what gets remember is good tracks whatever the time.

Could also point out that much of his rap features samples of you music and some rap is good other rap is crap just like in your day there was good and bad music.

the good stuff continues later.

Oh and it must be good if still has lots of fans...

Maybe show him a film like the dorrs and say hey are your gigs that wild

My son used to listen to that rap stuff when he was 12-13......and he used to say that my music is gay--Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, etc.......now he's 16 and that's all he listens to. So I think the first person who answered is right. He'll grow out of that "rap stage".

I think every generation thinks about this question. It was bound to happen to you and will happen to every other parent. It will be funny (and sweet justice) when your sons children think that the rap he listens to sucks and they tell him he's "OLD"!!! I wouldn't worry about it. Your son is 13 and what he is saying is pretty typical of a teenager. I used to say the exact same thing to my dad and all his Beatles and Elvis albums. Now I actually don't mind the Beatles and Elvis.

U2 IS STILL BIG AND I KNOW I HAVE SEEN PINK FLOYD SHIRTS IN THE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL AND ON SALE AT WALMART, BUT NEVER TOO OLD TO ENJOY GOOD MUSIC. I HAPPEN TO LIKE ALL SORTS OF MUSIC FROM RAP TO ALTERNATIVE CHRISTIAN MUSIC AND MY GIRLS OFTEN WANT TO BORROW MY MUSIC. EVEN MY 18 YR OLD.

I AM ALMOST 44 YRS OLD AND WENT TO SEE TOBY MAC AND BARLOWGIRLS. TOOK MY OLDEST TO IT.

Your son just has bad taste in music.... It will change. The up side is unlike me your Cd's will not disappear into his bedroom like mine do, my kid loves Metallica, AC/DC, Floyd, Pantera, Aerosmith. Can't find anything I want to listen to, and when I do its debatable if it will play again....
