PLEASE read this before buying.

The best time to buy car depends on 3 things:

1) Which vehicles are you considering?

2) How many miles do you drive?

3) How often do you trade/replace vehicles?

1) Do the research on the vehicle you are considering. Find out when the last one came out, when the next model comes out, what the current incentives are and when do they end.

As some said, it is good to buy a new car around the time the previous model year goes on clearance. There is a thin line between waiting for the best deal and waiting for all of the good ones to pass you by.

For example, many people are wanting to take advantage of the clearance on Ford Expeditions. Those who bought last month missed out on an extra $1000 rebate, BUT now there are only a dozen left in a 200 mile radius! Find a dealer who will do a locate and honestly tell you what is out ther.

You want to know when the incentives end because if you time it out right, you can choose to get the old incentive or the new one. If the incentives improve, you can obviously take the newer one. If they change to not suit your needs (like when a manufacturer lowers the rebate but also reduces the incentivised interest rate -- that won't help a cash buyer), you can usually have the dealer "back date" the deal to get the old incentive. There is a small window for this, so make contact just before incentives end.

2) & 3) If you drive 30k miles per year and/or trade in every 2 or 3 years, you won't want to get the previous model year. You might save $2k when you buy, but you might lose $3k in trade value.

If you drive under 10k miles per year and/or keep your vehicle for 4+ years before replacing, you should take advantage of the discounts associated with the previous model. If you were to buy a 2006 model today an trade it in in 2012, you will get close to as much in trade for it as you would a 2007 with the same miles.

If you have any questions on specific makes and models, feel free to email me. You can check out my dealership at http://www.diffee.com (but the site is getting completely redesigned and should be much better in early February, 2007.

Hope it helps.

In the USA I would say it is September because the next years cars come out in October and always the last week of the month because they will push harder to get the sale through for you, because the salesman is working on commission and they want more sales for the month. Good Luck

the best day is TODAY. i am a car salesman, and that's the answer i will give every time to every body. seriously, though, try at the end of the model year when the incentives are highest. domestics will give you better incentives, imports many times do not EVER offer incentives. just shop around, and don't be afraid to walk out if you are not happy with the numbers. (but DO give your sales person a chance to earn your business!)

Buy it as soon as they make new models the next year or at the last minute.New cars have the best technology, but a low price sounds much better.

It should be in the month of February because in January the car has a manufacture date of the previous year and by Feb. they are renewed.

February. For tax reasons. Also, sales tend to be slower so you get a better deal. Thats just my experience.
