Well it will not hurt if your hair is oily. Some can go every other day. I feel that it should be left up to each person. Just remember that when your hair looks dirty you look dirty all over. I was my hair everyday. But you can give your hair a break when you are going to be home and not see anyone.

Some tips that will definitely help!

Greasy hair can look lank, oily and lifeless if left to its own devices. But don't stress if your hair's greasy when you're young. You may well find it becomes less so in your twenties when your hormones sort themselves out!
There's no harm anyway in laying off the grease and eating more fruit and veg.

On the plus side, greasy hair is in fact healthy hair, since all the natural oil protects each strand from dryness and split ends.

Greasy hair needs to be kept clean by frequent washing with a mild shampoo. If you use a conditioner buy one that is oil free. Some of those designed for greasy hair will also help slow down oil production.

If you use a hair dryer when styling your hair don't let it get too hot. Heat will stimulate more oil production.

You should only wash your hair every other day becaus it can damage and take out natural oils, like your mom said. I can't help it either i have to wash my hair everyday. But sometimes on the weekends if i skip a shower people always compliment my hair althugh it looks greasy too me. Try less conditioner no spray in products (so it doesnt become greasy) and wash your hair everyday

I used to have greasy lank hair then someone told me that washing it every day stripped the oils and made it look this way. I went through a week of hell (not washing it) and this worked so well now I wash it twice a week and its condition is much improved. Sounds like this is one old wives tale that may have some truth in it.

yes your mom is right, washing hair everyday strips ur hair of its natural oils, making it produce more oils, making it greasy quickly

the best way to sort this, is by doing a number of things....
first of all use a specially formulated shampoo and conditioner for oily/greasy hair, and also wash it less, every other day should be ok, and over time reduce it more, like every second day.

secondly, dont use too much hair products on ur hair, the contents in products such as wax and gels, makes ur hair produce more oil making it greasy. so cut down on gels, hairspray etc, dont brush ur hair too much, or run ur hands threw ur hair, that will also give off oils making it greasy.

and lastly try not to wear hats, they make ur head sweat and causes the hair to become greay! hope that helps, good luck

your mum is right as your scalp contains it's own oils so it doesn't dry out and go all flaky. washing your hair every day might actually have caused it to go greasy as your scalp has probably gone into overdrive with it's own oils.
apparently your scalp and hair are capable of cleaning themselves if you leave them to it for long enough, but obviously this isn't the best choice for most people! if you're backpacking then it must be useful, but if you've got to go to work or school every day, then no!
instead of washing your hair on the second day, try this instead. wet your hands with cold water, tip your head upside down, and then run your fingers through your hair from the root, so you get a coating of cold water over your hair. it's not exactly a substitute for washing your hair but it does make it feel better. i have tried it, so do know.

Aaahhhhh!! What are you doing.. listen to your mum!! Your hair will get more split ends, frizzy and just straight up nasty.. If you wash it everyday then just stop your hair will get greasy because your hairs now used to being washed everyday!!.. Wash your hair Put "Leave in Conditioner" in and leave it in for a while rinse it out then dont wash your hair for another 2days and do the same with the leave in con, then again dont wash it for another 2days, this will help with the dryness.. DONT towel dry your hair either, that will make it worse.. Just wash your hair when needed, If your hair goes greasy the day after washing it then just tie it up and atleast leave it 1more day then wash it, it will soon stop getting greasy straight away, if it continues change your shampoo and con. GOOD LUCK! xBx

Don’t shampoo every day, even if you use a gentle shampoo. Daily shampooing takes too much oil and water from the shaft, and gentle shampoos don’t clean. Here’s some tips if
you must shampoo every day that will keep you hair in good condition:

1. Use a simple cleansing shampoo.

2. If you use a conditioning shampoo, don’t use a conditioner.

3. Thoroughly rinse your hair. The squeak test is a good measure
.
4. Limit how many styling products you use to limit the amount of buildup.

5. Thoroughly dry your hair.

6. Give you hair an occasional rest from whatever routine you use.

personally, i think that you shouldnt wash your hair every day, its perfectally ok not to. Now if you hair has ever been colortreated, eaithe highlights, or perm. color. washing every day really does some serious damage to your hair. My stylist recomends, that since my hair is bleached to wash it once a week, but if you dont have bleached hair i would say 2 times a week.
And if your hair become greasy there are several products out there that you can put into your hair to stop that.
They are usually powers, as an example you can take a look at this as an idea:

Hope this helps you!

Your mum is right. There's no need to wash your hair every day. Yes, it will appear greasy for a few days but once it gets used to being washed every other day (or whatever) this will balance out.
