It is normal for cats to hunt, then eat them. I've had many cats, they all hunted, mostly the females. The Males tend to be lazy.
Most of my cats hunted birds, then brought them in (through the open window) to me as presents. I did not appreciate these presents and let it be known. Eventually they would keep them out ot my room if I was there. I think I hurt their feelings, it is Nature for them to do this and is not bad. They can eat just about anything they can catch. Cats won't eat what is bad for them, unlike dogs, they will eat anything, rotten or poisonous, they don't care, but cats are smart, they just won't eat it if it's bad or rotten..

It's just her natural hunter instincts coming into play and unless you can be with her to stop it 24 hours a day, you can't do anything to stop it :) It shouldn't have too much of an effect though, maybe an upset tummy. She'll soon learn wha'ts OK to eat and what's not, cat's are quite intelligent. I have five cats, they all eat insects and bring us the odd half eaten mouse here and there. If you're really worried, the best thing you can do is get a collar with a bell on it. That way, it makes it harder to hunt as the bird/mouse/lizard etc will here her coming :)

She is a cat and she is acting like a cat. Of course if you do put down bug spray and the bug gets in the poison & she eats a bug that is covered in bug spray it cold hurt the cat.I lost a tiny kitten that way. but I really can't tell you how to make the cat stop acting like a cat. Sorry.

Just make sure she gets wormed every three months as cats eating insects/small wildlife is quite normal but it will increase their likelihood of picking up intestinal worms as insects and wildlife carry parasites. Ask your vet for Profender, the new dual wormer that is effective against tapeworms and roundworms that is applied to the skin of the neck - so much easier to give than the typical worming tablets.

It's a healthy and normal thing for a cat to do .... they enjoy it so much and it won't hurt the cat.
Don't be surprised if at some point the cat brings you what it catches as a "gift". Make sure to praise the cat if it brings you something, even if it's gross.... it's good for the cats confidence.
Good luck!!! =)

i think that this is brilliant! i had to teach my two to catch all the bugs and now they do i love it.... no more newspapers or mags just show the cats them and they take it from there. it does not hurt them its just instinct. the only problem is when they try to catch wasps or bees. they will go for them once get stung and they wont do it again!

It's o.k....and don't be shocked when she brings her mama (you) one of her kills. I liked to have died when my cat first placed a dead bird on my porch. It's their nature. Oh, another cat of mine used to sit and literally catch flies (while sitting) and slice them in half with his claws and flick them to the side. Yech!!!
