I have put on a lot of weight in the last month or two and am starting to feel a bit down about it. I have increased my exercise and I do eat healthily with the odd treat I think I just eat too much.

Are there any pills or similar that safely suppress appetite and where can i get them (UK) just to have a little help

If you r eating healthy enough and make an attempt at excercise then the weight should start to fall off. I tried appetite suppresants a few years ago (the natural ones that make u feel full), at the same time I developed IBS...there is no medical evidence that they are connected at all, but it put me off big time, and wouldnt reccomend them to anyone.

Also...when you say you are eating healthy, it may be your body has become used to what you eat, and now relies on that amount and hence no weight loss. I joined the slimming club slimming world a few months back and have learned so much about how the body works in terms of dieting..(before I thought I was eating healthy but I too was not loosing a thing). It helped me learn that eating cetain foods together, and not eating certain foods together, aids proper digestion, and helps you loose weight. For example, never eat meat and potatoes in the same meal, they are digested at much different rates, leading to improper digestion, and weight gain. Obviously its much more scientific than that, but thats the basics of it.

Good luck...and remeber, you may think your doing all the right things, but it is very easy to full yourself into thinking something...be honest with yourself! When I did that the weight strted to fall of.

The diet industry makes millions from people's impatience.

The time its taken you to pile it on is roughly the time it'll take you to work it back off!

Ignore everyone who wants to make you believe that stuff like Reductil or Hoodia works. Its a waste of money. There is no research supporting their clinical effectiveness whatsoever. With Reductil there have even been casualties and its under investigation. You can drink green tea til you're green in the face it'll make sod all difference!

What makes a difference is this: Make the goal of your weight loss plan not just to lose weight per se, but to lose excess body fat. There are only two ways of shedding excessive body fat. One is by consuming fewer calories (i.e. eat less, and/or eat healthier). The other is by burning more calories (i.e. by being more active and exercising). Either way you have to generate a calorie deficit.

Also stay clear of fad diets... Cabbage diet, egg diet, south beach diet, Atkins diet, low carbs, high protein, low cal bla bla bla... A HEALTHY BALANCED diet consists of lean protein such as fish or chicken breast, lots of fruit and vegetables; starchy foods such as wholegrain bread, brown pasta and brown rice; some nuts and seeds and is low in fat (especially saturated fat), salt and sugar. Cut out processed foods such as white bread. No pizza, microwaveable meals, burgers etc.

Have 3 proper meals and two snacks (one mid morning, one afternoon). Chew properly. Never skip breakfast. Try not to eat after 7pm.

There are 3500 calories per pound of body fat. So if you have a calorie deficit of 500 calories you would lose approximately one pound per week: (500 x 7 = 3,500) A calorie deficit of 1000 calories would therefore mean that you'd lose approximately two pounds per week (1000 x 7 = 7000). Two pounds a week is commonly accepted as the maximum rate of weight loss that is healthy.

Find a sport or an exercise you enjoy. Start off with exercising 3x a week. Do a mix of aerobic and anaerobic cardiovascular exercises (running, cycling, rowing, boxing, cross trainer...). Aerobic you do for 30+mins at a manageable speed where you should be able to talk. This builds endurance. Anearobic you do speed intervals where you go flat out and then have recovery breaks where you let your heartrate come back down and go again. That builds stamina. You can do this while running, cross trainer, rowing, cycling. Both aerobic and anaerobic cardio burns fat, just in different ways. You'll also develop your slow twitch as well as you fast twitch muscle fibres that way.

Think about it. Running burns 100 calories PER MILE!! If you run only 3 miles at a comfortable pace of a 10-minute/mile that's 300 calories gone just like that. Do that 3 times a week and you've already generated a calorie deficit of 900 calories by running alone.

Also do weight bearing exercises, either resistance machines or free weights. Lean muscle mass is the best fat burner we have. Once you build muscle it wants to live and it'll increase your basal metabolic rate even when resting.

When you change your lifestyle and "healthy" becomes a habit, you won't just be one of the January New Years Resolution statistics who lost a couple of pounds quickly and put on 5 pounds by Valentines day.

I answered a similar question (regarding slimming pills) here the other day but others gave me thumbs down for it. I mentioned ephedrine, but I also stated that you should only take it if you haven't got any heart or blood pressure problems and you must take no more than the recommended amount. It does work. Somebody said that it makes you hyperactive and you won't be able to sleep. If it has that sort of effect then you know you've taken too much. Sometimes just a quarter of the recommended dose is enough to be effective. It does work but you've got to use it responsibly. I suggest you read about it on the internet (although there's a lot of bad press about it) and make up your own mind.

don't take pills, whatever anyone might say, they're not good for you. i know it's hard, i really do, but you have to keep trying the real and the hard way, it's the best and the healthiest way to loose pills. besides, pills always have side effects and not all of them may be known yet. by taking pills to loose weight, you could set yourself at risk. i don't wanna make you paranoid, but it's just not the best thing to do!
keep on excersising, keep on eating healthy and enough, not more then you need, but enough to get you through your day in a normal way (don't starve yourself though) and try to ignore sweets completely. it sounds mean, but it's the only way. be careful; what you eat: (olive) oil instead of butter, low fat foods, fruit in stead of chips, stuff like that!
you can do it, just keep going and don't take pills!
good luck!
