rinfrance:- Oh deary me all very negative, if it was so simple you could always join the police yourself and sort out all the problems or perhaps you might not get through all the entrance exams and assessments ( or perhaps you tried and failed).
Murder:- Yes it's very simple to sort out a murder, the fact that a certain amount of evidence is required obviously doesn't come into it as far as your concerned. Also if you bother to do your research, the clearance rate for murder is extremely high, but you will always get some unsolved murders though hopefully with continued progress with DNA this will increase the detection rate even further.
Oh yes, according to your mate 1 in 3 are corrupt/bent, so who's your mate, Home Secretary, Tony Blair? Have you bribed one? Come on if your going to come up with crap like that back it up with evidence, not rubbish of what your mate reckons. Lord give me strength......
There are approx 140,000 police in the UK. You will never get 140,000 saints I am sure the odd bit of corruption is there, but I'm sure the percentage it is tiny.
Law knowledge:- obviously you have no idea how vast the law is and what it covers together with complicated precedures. There is absolutely no way a Police Officer, Solicitor or Barrister can know the full in's and out's of the law and that's a fact. The law is in a constant state of change with new laws coming in and old laws changed.
As for lazy officers I'm sure there are some I have no doubt, but that goes for any job.
I'm sure we can all point to an incident where the Police didn't do this and didn't do that, but then there will be people who will point to an incident where the response was different.

Well if they are selective they could easily do that. A friend of mine in the UK suggested that in the UK police 1 in 3 is corrupt/bent, 1in three is bone idle and is in it for a lazy life and the last guy is a hard working straight guy that is worth his weight in gold and is even respected by cons.
So by selective reduction you have the answer.
Are you also aware that much of the UK police time is chasing tax and similar on motor vehicles. We were at an accident and the copper saw a tractor go past with an out of date tax disc. He was more interested in that than the accident. The fact that the tractor was in excess of 35 years old and probably was exempt had nothing to do with it. In any case now that they have cameras in the UK for everything why bother.
In a county in the UK a girl had been murdered some years previously, they never found the culprit. A girl of 11 was at 22.00 at night high on alcohol and drugs was causing mayhem. When the police were called they responded by asking what they should do about it!!!
After complaining it took three weeks for a silly response.
The other week whilst on holiday I reported a UK TRAFFIC cop for not knowing UK traffic law. It has been upheld and he has been admonished. Oh, I live in france!!!
Yeah get rid.

And the problem?
The UK has a cctv for every 11 people in the country. Its helped to reduce crime because most of the vandals spend their days trying to break them.
You get to see who mugged/raped/knifed/shot you. Isn't it great?
On the recording its usually the person with his back to the camera. The camera that has just enough focus to show that the person attacking you was vaguely human.
Its something to watch while recovering in hospital.

Yes i knew...I take part in a survey for them so always find out a bit of inside info, what their plans are for the future etc.... They are either going to increase our Council taxes in order to cover their costs or cut down on police officers..
Unnecessary HIDING speed cams are an idea to retrieve some of their over spends...watch your speeds!

Not true, in fact spending is to be increase by 5.25% across the board to help with more community policing and to introduce a greatly enhanced violent crimes unit to operate countrywide. It will recruit exclusively from serving and ex servicemen and women.
