I was wondering if there was anything i could do about getting a collection agency in trouble... They keep calling an old number to a place i dont even live at anymore, no matter how many times they were told they had the wrong number and to quit calling they keep doing it. its been going on for 7 months almost daily calls. Recently this collection agency told these people that I have a case going to court and then gave that person my case number and told me to call them ASAP. Is that leagal? i have no idea what the case is about and I dont know what info you can get off someones case number but it seemed pretty F***D up to me. Luckily I know these people that the debt collectors were telling all this too.

Start be reading the link I supplied below. It's the Fair Debt Collections Act and it details exactly what a collector can and can't do.

Start by sending them a letter by certified mail, return receipt. Demand that they "cease and desist" all further communications with you. Remind them that they are not allowed to contact 3rd party people regarding your debt, and that under no circumstances are they to give details about it.

Then sit back and wait. If they call or contact you or any of your friends, you can sue them for $1000 in small claims court. Be prepared if you do, because they certainly will counter sue you for your debt. But after taking $1000 off for their penalty, and deleting the legal fees (your fees and their fees wash out after you file your suit)...you won't owe them that much.

This generally stops collection agents in their shoes.

They can call the phone company and complain of harrassment. The phone company will help.

Of course you KNOW what the case is all about, its your debt. All you have to do is get the number from your friends and call them and stop the phone calls! Why are you letting your friends take this for you?

Debt collectors don't care about laws, they want their money. If you have a court date set, you better be finding out when and what it is or they will land your smiling face in jail.

Do what you know is right.

I don't know if you can report this harassment to any one (they have fxxed up ways to collect money) but I have had fun with them before ; I told them a big sob story about how broke I was, I believe by time the poor guy was done listening to me " he about took up an office collection to help me" !!!
