Volunteering is a selfless act that benefits society (selfless because you don't get paid to volunteer; you do it because it helps others). Everyone should take time out of their busy schedules to do such a thing. The reason you mostly see teens and seniors volunteering is just because...

High schools actually require a certain amount of logged community service hours to graduate (my high school requires ninety hours over four years, my old high school required twenty-four; it varies depending on the district and Board of Education's policies). Teens volunteer so they can log the hours and thus graduate.

On the other hand, seniors are retired, meaning they have a lot of time on their hands. They volunteer because it gives them a chance to do something meaningful, occupy their time, and interact with people. It gets awfully boring just sitting around alone everyday watching TV in your boxers.

Young adults don't volunteer as often because they are often beginning or in the prime of their career. They could also, or instead, be in a committed relationship or starting a family. These aspects of life are very demanding, and it's hard to find time to volunteer because of this. Middle-aged to older adults, then, are generally busy maintaining a household and raising children. People in these age groups have a lot more responsibility to handle, and a lot less spare time, than teenagers and seniors.

Hope that answers your question. :D

It is for everyone, but there are reasons why you see more teens and seniors.

1. Some volunteer agencies require volunteers to be in certain groups. I once tried to volunteer in a hospital and I was told that only high school students were allowed to volunteer.

2. A lot of school districts require volunteer work as grounds for graduation.

3. A number of housing projects require that their residents work for a number of hours. If the person is disabled or otherwise gets money from means other than work, they are required to do community service.

4. People in other age brackets tend to have more responsibilities to manage.

It's not mostly for any age group BUT i think there is a higher amount of teens and seniors doing it because they have the most time and opportunities. Teens do it a lot at school. Schools offer a lot f community service opportunities. Seniors have more time exspecially retired people that just want to get out and do something helpful. Most adults in between those ages work and have families and not a lot of time or opportunities for volunteering.

Seniors get involved because they have the time to do it. Most seniors are also living on a fixed income, so they are unable to donate monetarily, so they give their time. Teens get involved for a variety of reasons. Volunteering looks really nice on college applications, for one thing. Another reason teens get involved is because they are really interested in the organization and they want to give back to it in some way. Teens also have a lot of energy, so why not use it volunteering.

I think most people in the in-between ages aren't seen as much of volunteers, because they simply do not have time. Either they are working full time or they are raising a family, and it is just easier to donate money.

Volunteering is for everyone. Teens and seniors probably seem more involved because they often have more time to offer and schools and senior groups have volunteering programs in place. Teens also might because it looks good on college applications. However, lots of adults volunteer for things too, such as with groups like Habitat for Humanity, Easter Seals, Junior Achievement, etc. They also do things through their jobs which tend to be more low-key/low-profile.

Well... not necessarily. Volunteering is mostly for those who need a bit of extra help or attention. Who needs our help and attention more than teens and seniors? People can volunteer to help those with disabilities such as reading to the blind, assisting with the developmentally disabled... etc. Also some programs allow for volunteers to do things with inmates in minimum security prisons and such. You *could* volunteer to help a regular middle-aged citizen for a day... but that would be a mite bit strange. Perhaps you could volunteer to do my taxes?

No people of any age should volunteer or provide community service. One easy thing I found to do is Meals on Wheels (Aids victims) or Aid for Friends (sick & shut ins). You can cook or deliver meals to people who need it. It doens't take much time for those with already busy schedules.
