Religions have been around since the very beginning, but they have not solved ANYTHING but instead caused countless loss of lives!

No. People should have the right to believe and worship as they wish, even if their religion is manmade or ridiculous.

Japan is mostly atheistic and has the lowest crime rate in the world... US is the most christian and has a high crime rate.... Banning seems a good idea, but people would still worship in secrecy (eg countries of the former USSR) and it will fuel it even more (the persecution thing stated in the bible). They would probably think it is the apocalypse because of the banning and go on some kind of religious driven rampage and overthrow the government. The leaders would probably dismiss the idea of banning because religion is a very useful tool in controlling the masses (gives the oppressed some hope - the afterlife).

Many other reasons for not going that way exist, but i only stated a few off the tip of my tongue. Education, banning religion in public, separation from the state, creationism not being disguised as science and not teaching children to follow the parents religion, but instead choosing their own path are the wisest choices.

The problems caused in the world are not caused by religion per se, but by human beings and their stupid interpretations, as well as their tendency to violence. If you look at the amount of people who enjoy watching videos of Saddam's hanging, you have proof of my second statement!

I tend to think that there would have been even more problems had there been no religion in the world. Most religions are essentially peaceful or even pacifist.

I have to add: to say that Japan is mostly atheist is just scratching the surface. It may appear so, but if you get to know them you realise that their lives revolve around fending off bad luck by doing things to appease the gods. I live here and have seen the crowds going to the shrines and temples on New Year's day. I talk to them daily and know aout their fears and superstitions. Apart from that, the Japanese just have it in their genes to be good. They simply are lovely, polite, sweet-natured people, I love them!

I disagree with you there. There has always been something to fight over; possessions, land, food, water, religion, etc.. Without religion we would just find something else to fight over. You have to remember the world is overpopulated right now. We cannot sustain this many people with what the Earth has. It is not the purpose of most religions to cause fighting but to bring about peace, understanding, compassion, and most importantly hope. And for some, hope is all they have. I don't know that humans will ever outgrow our violent tendencies but if we are to try then we most certainly will need hope.

Blessed Be )O(

The thoughts of banning religions were and are the cause of all serious problems. Instead of turning to the Messengers of God for the lessons of divine love and knowledge, man keeps on ungratefully fighting against his omnipotent Creator.

It might be better if religion went away but it's impractical to ban it. Banning religion would be more repressive than religion already is. Besides if people stopped fighting over religion they'd just find something else to fight about.

Religion means re-join ..God,in the spiritual world. How?by training oneself to reject this material world and concentrate on the spiritual one.Whil ein this world one can use the matter for living, but not accumulating unnecessary goods/money.
One should not kill to nourish oneself,as veg and grains are enough to feed oneself.
Liquor is also bad for spiritual life,as well as sex life, which makes one a slave of another person...and of one's lust.
Most "religions"do not teach these things, and so are not really religions, but the contrary...And "religious "wars are not really so:some people have used God's Names to pursue their own selfish agenda.

i am not sure the majority of the world would be happy with that suggestion
the religious cant just give up religion
there would be an uprising
i feel it would be a better idea to reassess religious beliefs within each religion
that priests , ministers etc should be changing strategy and adopting a new outlook within their own system
i dont mean give up on their old laws and the basis of their beliefs ... but bring things up to date giving the present situation of the world

No. Apparently this is the only thing holding these crazies back from murder, rape & rampage.
OK on a personal level yes, but people would still find reason to fight, religion is just a primer.
