I agree Ali was one of, if not the greatest sportsmen in history. When he retired from boxing the sport died for some time. Not only was he a great athlete he was a great spokesman for the black race. Someone who would stand up for his beliefs in a time when racism was so high deserves a great deal of respect.

I loved Muhammad Ali, I cried when he lost to Holmes. However, he is not the greatest sportsman ever. Jackie Robinson had more importance than Ali. I also look at Babe Didrikson who dominated 2 sports. Billie Jean King was just as big during the same time as Ali and championed women's issues. Edwin Moses didn't lose a race for 10 years and dominated 2 Olympics, it would have been 3 but in 1980 the US boycotted. He championed Drug testing and was responsible for amateur athlete eligibility rule changes. He went on to be a Physicist and Engineer. Yes, Ali is the greatest in his sport and he was a great champion but there are so many out there that are just as great or greater.

Michael Jordan. No description neccessary. How many kids under the age of 20 have even heard of Ali? (I'm not saying he wasn't great - he was).

Ali is the greatest boxer of all time, no question.
Comparing different sports is invidious but you could mention top allrounders like C.B. Fry, Jim Thorpe and Max Woosnam.

I disagree with you there, Sean Long who plays for St Helens is the greatest sportsman ever, he has won the "Lance Todd Trophy" three times in a row, he has also won "The Man of Steel" award, and got St Helens to win the treble (The League Leaders shield, the Challenge Cup and the Superleage Final!) now (in my humble Northern Working Class opinion) that is worthy of being called the greatest sportsman ever!

He was a dangerous Muslim fanatic. Good boxer though.

Schumacher wins by using the best cars, he wont allow the team to field a strong partner for fear of being humiliated.

I'd say someone like Pele.

Michael Schumacher. I realise lots of people will disagree but even if you don't like the guy you cannot deny he was top of the drivers.
