I have a terrible head cold. My grandson has lent me his computer to pass the time. What I would like to know is...Where does all the nasty snot come from. My grandson says it's my brain dissolving and coming out my nose, which has sent me into panic as at my age we need all the brains we have left. I don't want to believe him so could you help me with the right answer and give me an excuse to rap him across the knuckles....Thankyou my dears

Naughty grandson!! Your nasal passage is always lined with mucus-but when infected with something like a cold,it thins and comes out,helping to eject the virus.
Never mind his knuckles-give your grandson a good clip round the ear!!

Oh its mucus or cough that comes out of the nose and not brains dissolving.Its a way by which the body tries to keep infections away from you .
PS:Its a sign that your body is immune to other viral infections during cold

Snot is pollution. it dosent happen as much when theres no cold cos your immune system is still healthy. but when a cold comes it is a mix of pollution and germs. the best way is to blow your nose and take fishimens friend.

Relax put your feet up have hot cuppa of honey and lemon.Think of the nice things u use to do when u were young if this doesnt help go and see the doctor tomorrow.

oh dear grandma... the snot is made by the sinuses (which I hope you know where they are). so dont worry dear when your grandson tells you that its your brain dissolving. actually I was thinking that such questions would be easily answered by you!!!

Its actually mucus which is a response to an invading virus. The body responds by producing this mucus to try and cope with this invader. It's got nothing to do with your brains.
