I don't think you need a visa to visit hong kong for less than 30 days. hong kong is part of prchina, and hence 4 days doesn't require a visa. you should check with your chinese embassy in us.

With US passport, you can visit Hong Kong for up to 90 days with no visa. If you go to mainland China, then you need a visa.
Hong Kong was a British colony and it is now a Special Administrative Region of China.

There is a train that goes from the airport to where-ever you need to go. Buy the Octopus pass.

Taxi is better if you have more than 2 luggages.
