As someone who has bought and sold vehicles on e bay, I would recommend doing so. You have to be careful, and pick cars that are close enough to you to go and inspect them prior to bidding.

Understand that the car is not going to be perfect! All used cars have flaws. Look for sellers who either have lots of pictures in their listings, or a link to another site with more pictures! Ask questions. Do not assume that something is included if it is not.

When you bid on a car on E bay, you are agreeing to by it for your bid price. You are not getting an option to buy.

Set your bid based on what you think the car is worth. Allow for some repairs. Also allow for any needed inspections, and the cost of transportation of the vehicle.

Good Luck!

I have bought and sold several cars on EBAY. If the seller properly describes the car you can accept it as described. In some ways this is safer than buying from a local paper or dealer. When you visit a dealer they can pressure you into a car that is not right for you and the onus of quality rests with you, the buyer. Some of the sellers on EBAY off an HPI checks to ensure that the car is not stolen or has outstanding finance. To buy a car on EBAY make sure it is well described, and you accept the flaws. If the item is not as described you are not obligated to complete the purchase.

There are great bargains to be had buying cars from ebay.

Buy from someone with good feedback. Look for good descriptions. The better sellers post the faults as well as the good bits.

Dont buy one that looks too good to be true as it probably is.

Dont just because its ebay expect to get the car at silly money. I pitch any ebay car I sell at trade money which is what most ebay cars reach. So dont expect to get it below trade.

Remember once you hit the bid button the car is yours. Same as any other auction. You dont bid to get first refusal and a test drive.

To my experience i will say if you thing it will be a bargain go for it but follow these points
1) Find some thing local for you say say 10 - 15 mile depending how comfortable it will be for you to travel
2) Do not bid until you see the vehicle
3) Do a test ride and check the paper work
4) Watch the bids do not bid till last say 5Min and at this point just bid the max amount you think is good value for it
this way you are sure you haven't payed more and if you lose don't worry any way you din't want to pay anything more than what your bid was.

So Good Luck

A good idea, but make sure you watch your back, use a good seller and know what you're talking about, I know someone who picked up a car for less than £50, put a new gearbox in it, and now two people have learnt to drive in it, and costing them £251 in total, they've sold it for £100 so for £151 two people have learnt to drive!

Buying ars is a good idea, but try and find one local to you, ensure you visit it and they have the appropriate paperwork.

Go view and drive the car before the auction ends, if you dont know about cars go with someone who does, then make an offer most people would accept a cash offer there and then.

i bought a SAAB turbo on ebay for £700 and it has been fantastic. The seller buys cars at auction and sells them on, he made just £20 on the saab. i would buy another in the same way.

The only crap part is that i would never rely on Paypal to sort out a problem, its my expereince that they only work for the seller and try and make it so very difficult for the buyer to get their money back

never NEVER buy any form of motorised transport, or musical instrument, without seeing it and trying it first.

It always amazes me that people will bid thousands on a motorcycle on Ebay, win the damn thing then when they go to collect it , they will niggle because it is nothing like as good as they expected.

The internet is NOT reality. You can't buy a second hand car without seeing it, come on now !!!

Be careful, don't pay a penny until you've been to see it and if possible take a mechanic or someone who knows what to look for.

If you do that it should be no different to buying from the loot

I wouldn't do it - if you're buying a second hand car you should always have it inspected first and you don't have that opportunity on ebay!!
