What if no one buys a ticket so they don't run the movie, then someone comes along 20 minutes later and buys one, hoping to see most of the movie?

The norm in the UK is to start showing the movie in case someone comes in late.
After 20 minutes the movie is cancelled if nobody arrives.

I don't think so. I got to a movie just a little late once, and they said it was canceled because no one showed up.
