Are you using rewritable disks? If you burn over the old CD on a rewritable information it is lost. What kind of burning program are you using? If you are using multi session burning then no data should be lost, but you will lose space on the disk because every time you add more data the previous folder directory is destroyed and a new one created to reflect the updated data. It all comes down to what disks you are using and what kind of burning regime you are using. Email me if you want to add more information so I can supply a better answer. Good luck!
