Kenneth- I am thinking that you didnt phrase your question correctly. How could you possibly think that your local Police Department would be better equipped than the Army ??? When was the last time that you saw a Police Officer make a traffic stop in a M-1 Main Battle Tank ?? Or in a M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle ?? Or Fly in an AH-64 Apache ?? Those three items have answered your question without even straining to think of all of the additional Gee Whiz stuff that the rest of the Army gets to play with.

I rolled down a city street with 4 Hummers , 2 .50 cal, 2 240B, and 15 automatic weapons and 15 M9s. We carried AT-4s. We also had radios and could call 2 Apache helicopters to our location within 10 minutes. We also had M109A6 howitzers at the FOB. Now I do not know where you are from but here in my town the police carry M9s and we have no helicopter. I choose Army.

BUGS? What are you thinking? Soldiers in Iraq detain people everyday. We carry "zipties" and lock them up when they do bad things. We have cool checkpoints (we had Tanks at our checkpoints) There is no kind a deterrent like 50 Iraqi soldiers with tanks and bmps. They shoot quite frequently.

Far better.
Army has a different role to play.
Fighting an enemy is much more than maintaining local Law & Order situation.
Army has to deal with adversaries who are very well organized, equipped and are capable of putting up resistances to an unknown level, hence the preparations to deal with such determined forces have to be of exteremely high standard and almost perfect.

Well I am an MP, military police, and we are more equipped than regular police, but we carry M-4, a 9mil pistol and either a SAW, or a .50cal. So again, yes.
