bi-polar 2, is the roller coaster of emotion days are up days are down. bi-1 the manic is steady for a month or two. Its typical to say that the bipolar 2 is harder to handle for meds because it is a mood driven mental health issue. don't mistake we do have manic but just not full blown if you feel so good that you feel superhuman. have a continuous. talk to doctor. for more info check bi-1 & bi-2 on the web or talk to your doctor if its you. hope i helped.

Every person with bi-polar is unique, though there are some common symptoms. I'd recommend you go on line and find the Online Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, it will have in there a very concrete discription of the disorder.

If you've been diagnosed, always ask for a second opinion, as sadly this and other disorders can be misdiagnosed if a good physical isn't done to rule out medical causes for depression and mania. If you have it, educate yourself, talk to as many people with it or who live with someone with it, so you can get an idea of what to expect.

Good Luck.

I'm bi-polar, and I've never heard of bi-polar disorder 2. Maybe I'm missing something. Could you explain further? My mother was extreme in her manic-depression. Compared to her, I'm fairly mild. Maybe that's the difference between 1 and 2. I don't know. I'll ask my therapist.

The difference between Bipolar 1 and Bipolar 2 is in the mania only. Bipolar 1 has fullblown mania with grandiose thoughts and serious reckless behavior and sometimes psychosis. Bipolar 2 has hypomania which is a milder form of mania, instead of bying a porsche and driving to Orlando for the weekend they clean house a lot or bake 300 cookies...... they never experience psychosis. Also in Bipolar 2 they tend to be depressed more of the time and only have mania for about 5% of the time compared to type 1 which has mania 30% of the time.but that is individual to the person.
