India is not poor. It is a misconception. There is poverty in India like any other country. But India is growing at a very fast pace. It is a country with one of the highest purchasing power. This proves that there is a very rich Indian society. If India was a poor country why would you see so many international brands coming into the Indian market. I feel the question is totally irrelevant.

Who said India is poor. Now the purchasing power of the Indian has increased enormously not only in the urban areas but also in the rural areas. If you compare the India what it was before 10 to 20 years ago, now with the implementation of New and Liberalized Economy Policies, India is rapidly growing in all the areas. No doubt in another some years, India will be the one of the Richest country in the world.

India is not poor. It is the Indian population which is poor. Again, there are a handful of extremely rich Indians.
The reason India is poor is LACK OF EDUCATION.

India is getting out of poverty but the pace could be faster. The quotas given to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are forever. A time limit will be fair. At the same time all Indians should be given equal opportunity to advance. Education should be compulsory and free. Gujraat type riots against the minorities should never happen and peace and tolerance should be re-established. Everyone should be made to feel that his life and property are safe in India.
There is no other way to accelerate the progress. We are doing the right things, but we could do more to speed up the progress.

You are 'Kulandai' indeed. India is not poor. It was a rich country until the invadors from other continents and countries looted India. But, still India could have recovered and made a place in the economy if corruption did'nt exist in India. The whole Indian poppulation should fight against corruption which no one is bothered. Even then India is rich in knowledge in terms of science and technology and mathematics, culture, history etc. unlike 'Kulandai' having low esteem about our beloved country.

Lack or mineral resources oil etc., Antiquated or non-existent infra-structure - transportation, telecommunications, energy distribution. Huge population. Lack of foreign investment - India was a closed economic system until the 1970s. Poor manufacturing efficiency - hierarchical management system means poor empowerment of factory workers. Excessive bureaucracy inhibits entrepreneurship. Low wages leads to brain drain to US. Lack of strategic investment in growth industries. This is all changing but not as fast as has been seen in other Far East Asian companies.

Because of the demographics of India, the counting of the population isn't easy; I found online a variety of numbers ranging from:
955,351,995 to 1,027,015,247. I would say these figures would go a long way in explaining the poverty there. How could any government deal with such a huge number of people, so wide spread across India?

india is still poor. because poor people are becoming poor, and rich people are becoming more richer. and great people are helping rich people only. but who will help the poor ones.
for example if a poor person and a rich person goes for interview
if the poor one will answer nicely also he wont get seat and the rich one will not tell nicely also he will get seat ,why?because of
corruption.see the beggers see the people who are suffering with the effects of cyclones,if kind hearted rich men will come forward to help them. they can also servive .think of a while.
