Iraq51. As the Draft began Bush was seconded by the National Guard and placed on Border Patrol, he was from that time on immune to the Draft.
He was the youngest person on Border Patrol in the US for some years, his contemporaries were at least 15 years older than him.

Bryan_ You were a serving soldier in the Army, and could have been placed anywhere in the World including the front line, you could not be considered to be a Draft Dodger. Good Man.

Have you noticed that Bush, Blair and Ehud Olmert are all War lovers, but none have ever seen combat or had their kids enter military combat?

This was in the middle of the cold war, and the Alaskan border at the time was a very important area to be patrolled. I personally served in the Army during desert storm, but was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA.....far away from the fighting. Does this mean that i dodged the war? I think not. Our soldiers in combat can only do their job if other soldiers are serving elsewhere also.

A doctor serving in Missouri or a supply clerk serving in Texas are just as necessary as the troops fighting overseas. Their service to their Country is just as important.

Bush spent the vietnam war in the national guard - and even in that privilidged position he spent most of the time dodging as much involvement as possible.

Yes, if he had seen active service, it would certainly have changed his views and attitudes..... whether that would have been for the better or not, it's hard to say

Ronald Reagan saw active service in WWII and he was not exactly a 'Dove'

to tell you this. Bush couldn't have gone to Vietnam when he was in the Texas Air National Guard. He completed his training after the finish of the war. There was no more war to fight.

Well, at least he didn't go to Vietnam for 7 months, posted himself for 3 purple hearts and a silver star and trampled on the honor of fellow veterans for political gain like John Kerry did.

BUsh may not be the perfect President, but he's a hell of a lot better than John Kerry and that "Kepchup Lady" wife of his.

He obviously lacked the political will he has to send someone else to fight coz he ducked out of serving his country. More interestingly the american people called John Kerry "weak" on war and security yet he went to vietnam when called and survived while ol george used his daddy's connections to duck out of the texas air national guard. But we voted for him? Oh yeah, thats right we didnt, big oil bought the supreme court after the monkey shines in florida came to light and then stole the election.

Dear misinformed child
1. Bush was in Texas
2. Bush asked to go to Nam
3. His plane had no use there and request was denied
4. All of this is public record that even a IQ40 person can find online
5. Since you are obviously not smart please refrain from these silly troll posts in the future.

This is America everybody should get a second chance.
He has made up for it by conquering Iraq. Perhaps if he had been in Vietnam it would be like Texas today.

It's amazing how liberals continue to slap out national guard troops in the face by implying that being in the guard is NOT HONORABLE SERVICE!! They have made themselves mentally ill with their Bush hatred!
