without question of course I would, just the same as if one of my children were choking.
I work alongside various rescue charities and it is sooooooo lovely to hear good stories instead of all the horrors I usually have to deal with.
from all the dogs in rescue I thank you all for you love and compassion.

Yes i think so. My dad did a similar thing when he had my dog out hunting and in a freak accident she had run through slashed bracken fern with her mouth open and got a piece the size of a pencil lodged into the roof of her mouth near the back of the throat. He didn't know anything was wrong until she started to stagger and was reeling in circles in pain. He grabbed her and saw the problem and had to put his fingers right into her throat to get hold of the nasty and pull it out. She wasn't a savage dog but did chew his hand up a bit in the process. The vet said she would not have survived if it wasn't removed quickly due to shock and toxic reaction. I think my dad deserved a medal but in all reality I think any one who loves an animal will not let it suffer and will do what it takes to help the animal even if its at their own physical expense. I know that i would do what I had to for my animals ( although I dont know about someonelses pit bull)!

Yes, I would and have. I have an English Bulldog and if they get to hot the foam that all dogs get in their mouths when they get hot will get stuck in an English Bulldogs throat, because of the way their head is shaped from the smashed in nose look. Well mine overheated once( I tried to take her to Super Pets and she got to excited), and I had to reach my hand down her throat and pull the goo out it took about 4 times of doing this before she could breath. Then I had to rush her home and give her a cool bath. Thank goodness my vet had warned me that this could happen and what to do. They are a wonderfull breed, but you really have to watch how hot it is and to keep them from getting overly excited. They can suffocate from that saliva in a matter of a few minutes if they get to hot and someone does not relize or see what is happening. My baby girl stays at home now and never goes out if the temperature is extremely high. You are a true hero to save your dog, and you both must be really happy. It sounds like your dog could not ask for a better owner.

Wow!! Well I'm a woman so I would have gone to pieces and started screaming first and that takes away a little from my reaction time!! I might have to kick somebody's *** or get my guy to do it for me. But if MY dog were choking, yes definitely, I WOULD reach down into her throat and pull out ANYTHING I HAD to!! (Then I would throw up myself because I have a weak stomach and can throw up just because someone else did) I hope you took care of the idiot who was so stupid. I had a college buddy (I didn't say we slept together, did I? Foregone conclusion, uh, well) anyway, that gave my little poodle puppy the fat off our steaks he was cooking for a dinner date in his home one time. She threw up ALL over his fancy bedspread and I went home feeling rotten and never saw him again. That was a damn good dog and she gave me 11 beautiful years of no trouble, but bless her heart, why wasn't I watching her? Well that's enough. Good Luck!! @8=)

WOW, great reflexes!!!!! You most likely saved your dog's life. Turkey bones splinter just like chicken bones. The splinters could have done damage that would have required surgery to repair. You acted in the best and quickest manner possible, and think no one else did anything. I did CPR on a hamster and saved it. You do what you got to do. Again WOW!!!!

Absolutely, good for you man. If there were more caring people out the that would have performed in that manner, more animals could possibly still be alive today. I'm sure the dog is very greatful as well, again good for you A+.

Yes, I would have done whatever necessary to remove the bone, or whatever was choking him. Its been an awful long time, but I even took a course in animal CPR. It was a voluntary supplement to a regular CPR course. I gladly hopped up for the chance. Just in case......

Hmmm, yes in a way but I wouldn't make him throw up myself if the the vet clinic is open. I would rather take her to the vet and the vet will be covered in spews instead! I think you did a brave job especially when you are covered with dog's vomit. I'm one of those people who squeals at the sound of it!
