As a law enforcement Officer in Illinois it depends on the ticket. If in fact this is your first ticket, and depending on how much over the speed limit, you can receive supervision and get traffic safety school to have it taken off your record. Most people take this option.

If you choose to fight the ticket you will be given a 2nd court date. You will have the opportunity to hear the Officers testimony regarding the stop and ask him questions regarding the violation. Keep in mind this is the time to prove your case not after during comments. You will have to prove the Officer failed in one of a few areas. Did the Officer check the radar unit for accuracy? Was any other vehicle in front of the unit while getting his reading? Questions like that will prove your case.

Keep in mind an Officer can allow you to see the radar. He doesn't have to. Most times when people ask its usually ok but for safety reasons there may be times an Officer will say no depending on the location of the stop. Busy highway, lighting conditions, multiple occupants in a vehicle and such.

I wish you good luck and hoped that helped.

If it's the standard $75 speeding ticket, it's probably not worth it. You might get lucky and the cop doesn't show up if you go to court, but you have to weigh that against taking several hours off from work to go sit in traffic court all day until your case is called.

I've watch good bullshyters get off, and passive ppl get the shaft, Depends if your a type A personality and can pretend to convince someone a lie is the truth, because in a court of law your always guilty unless you have a good lawyer. Now if you didn't go back and read the radar gun, well that's plan ......

If it is your first just pay it and move on. In Ohio they offer a safe driving course on line and you may opt to take that and pay the fine, also no point to your license. I had a small fender bender and it as my first and they got me for assured cleared distance it was 77 dollar fine and 2 point but with the driving course on-line I paid the money and received no points. Check into this.

I've fought tickets in TN, KY, and IN. One in the first two, 3 in IN. Have yet to lose one. So I'd go for it. Just do some research online, that's what I did.

It really depends on the fact of if you did commit the traffic law violation or not. If you did do it, then no its not worth it, but if you really did no do it, then yes it is always worth it.
