Are you sure they are fleas? have you tried Frontline, revolution, advantage? Very safe for a 5 month old puppy. If you have only tried things from the supermarket for the prevention of fleas then stop right there you are wasting your money. I am not sure where you live in the world but you need to visit your vet for a good topical flea treatment as it is really the only effective way to rid of those pests. Do not use flea wash if you are using any other flea products as this will be too much of an overload of chemicals for your dog. It may take a month or so to eradicate the problem from you house because of the dormant fleas in your environment so make sure to continue to use the product and i assure the problem will defiantly go. Also make sure you worm your dog for if you have fleas your puppy can also be at risk of the flea tapeworm
Hang in there you will kill them

Try one of the "prescription" flea medications, such as Advantage that you apply around the dog's shoulders, which is then distributed around the body by the bloodstream or one of the tablets such as Sentinel or Program. I've tried all of them for my dog, and they all work very well. I live by the beach in Hawaii, which has lots of fleas, and my dog has been free of fleas for a long time now. The commercial flea collars, flea powders, flea shampoo, etc. are not effective for most dogs that go outside. I tried them with my dog when I first got her and they did nothing that I could tell. Advantage and Program are both my first choices. They are more expensive than the stuff you buy at Wal-Mart, but then, they work and the other stuff doesn't.
You can buy any of the better products from 1800petmeds.com and a couple of the flea medications also have medication to prevent heartworm as well. You have to give the flea meds only once a month so that is another advantage to them. You can also buy these flea medications from your vet's office but they tend to be more expensive there.

Ask your Vet for capstar which will kill all fleas right then and there and then try as posted above, frontline or advantage. I would call an exterminator and have them treat your house - which i would schedule this around vacation so you and your pet are not around. After vacuuming get rid of the bag also. Once under control make sure to keep dog on a flea prevention or something like Sentinel which prevents Heartworm Disease And Flea Populations.

Ok, here's a few things to cut down on the flea population. Keep your grass cut short. Don't let the pup in grass that comes above your ankles. Put garlic powder in the dog food as well as brewers yeast. Use flea powder instead of drops and such because it gets better coverage and can be applied more often. Bathe the pup once every four days to keep from getting buildup of flea droppings, dried blood, and residue from the flea powder. Don't use a flea shampoo unless you absolutely have to or it may dry your pup's skin and make it flakey.

Do NOT use OTC flea products including collars & shampoos they are worthless plus they are very dangerous. They contain high concentrations of toxic pesticides. They can cause skin burns, neurological issues, seizures & death.
Get a safe product from your vet. Also treat the enviornment. As long as there are fleas in the enviornment there will be fleas on your dog.

First of all, you'll get through this it's only a temp thing. Have you considered taking your dog to the vet, if so your vet could give you the proper diagnosis, and your puppy will be well on its way to recovery. However, if you don't it could develope into something far worse, get in too the vet as soon as possible. If, you really want to try the absolute best for flea's go to frontline plus.com

Maybe the product you are using isn't efficient. Flea collars isn't as good as it might be, they only protect few inches radius around the collar. Try the costly ones from vets, it really works. I had a friend whose house is infected with armies of fleas! She then bought Frontline from the vet and the next morning all fleas on her cat and dog are dead in their bedding. Another thing to remember is to vacuum the house regularly - a non-toxic way to decrease the fleas , larvae and eggs in the environment. I hope you wins the battle with murderous fleas!

I don't know where you live so I don't know where your puppy potties. That is your source though. It has to be sprayed with a grass treatment like Malathion or Diazanon (sp?). Every time you spray the area again (every month) you need to switch the kind of spray to the other poison because those damn fleas adapt to it. Poor doggy sopping up all those poisons!! Good Luck!! @8-)

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

Listen to these other folks advice, get a "good" flea medication. And vacuum several times a day. My greatest concern... get rid of the flea collar NOW, on some dogs they are toxic ! I know , tried one one our dog years ago when she was a pup. All she did was lay around and sleep, very lathargic. Please get rid of the collar.
