Bad thing: If America adopted open and unlimited immigration, finding a real American would be like looking for a marshmallow in a coal bin.

America could never have open immigration even if people would come here with the proper papers. The country would be flooded with many undesirable people from many undesirable places and America would be deluged with excessive people. Of course, immigration without papers (illegals) is out of the question and must be stopped as soon as possible. This country is becoming the dumping ground of the world. Look what happened in Germany after the last couple of decades. They had a rather "liberal" immigration policy and they were deluged with foreigners from Turkey, Italy, etc. and the German people finally took the bull by the horns and ended the matter.

If this country adopted an "open and unlimited" immigration along with the already millions of illegals who are here that we are taking care of, the working class citizens of this country would simply go broke...Who pays for ALL the benefits they receive? such as foodstamps, housing, schooling and healthcare...WE DO....the U.S. taxpayer.
I work for a school district and there are hundreds of families with 3 and 4 children each in our district alone who are on welfare, get free schooling, free lunches, free busing, free medical care, foodstamps etc...How many can we take care of from our paycheck? We cannot take care of everyone...it is financially impossible...That doesn't make anyone a bad person or an uncaring person either...it's just the facts of the reality of it all. Someone HAS to pay for all of these benefits they receive. So, NO, it would NOT be good for America to have open and unlimited immigration..

1) The country would go down the crapper.
2) I'd move to Canada.

(1) because as someone else stated, our welfare system can't support that many people. Also, our already dissolving language system would be further diluted. As is, I can't go outside without hearing Arabic, English, and Spanish. I, as well as thousands of others, only know English and it becomes rather frusturating when I can't pay for a simple Mt. Dew because the Cashier doesn't know what shes saying.

(2) Yeah, I'd have to learn French, but first off, that only is in certain parts of Canada...after that, 2 languages is easier to learn than 15.

You must understand NOT ALL PEOPLE ARE SO THRILLED TO LIVE IN AMERICA!!! Even if America adopted an 100% open-door policy to people of other nations to live and work in America!!! You must understand you are stepping into a country with very different set of rules and cultures, attitudes of people living there, different lifestyles and expectations. Are you ready to live in another country, giving up all your friends and businesses, your own culture and traditions in order to live in a strange land. As it is,America is" swarms" with immigrants already and she is up to her" neck" to solve so many social problems brought in by the immigrants. The government will have the last say if this policy is good for America or not !!

America would become the lowest country in the world in all fields like knowledge, money, IQ , sports , science, etc, etc and unemployment & poverty would drive the people away from America to other countries " laziz fare " as Adam Smith has told.

Pure and utter chaos!
It would end up somewhere in the future that each section of America would become divided into "little (insert country here)" and become junior countries to their home country. What a mess.
CLOSE THE BORDERS NOW! We need to fix our country from the inside first.

It would be a bad thing because our social welfare system can't even provide for the current situation let alone an expanded system caused my an even larger level of immigration into this country.

Good Luck!!!

What would happen is you would have to change your name to Australia. We have stupidly laxed immigration laws that let everyone and their dog in here. Now we are victims of political correctness and anti discrimination laws that protect everyone but us, to the point where some silly muslim cleric tells us that the muslim society has more right to this country than we do.
For everyones sake DON'T DO IT!!!!

We would become immediately overcrowded.

It would destroy our infrastructure and social welfare system.
We would literally have thousands of people homeless, sleeping in parks, subways, streets...building cardboard houses.

Rampant crime, corruption and distrust. More gangs, drugs, violence. Breakdown of public trust in our politicians, police, and other officials.

We'd probably need martial law.
