martial arts isn't a miracle cure for everything.it can help with self confidence but it cant give it to you,it's already inside you.you just have to find it.

It would depend on what kind of student you become. If you learn and truly understand the philosophy of Martial Arts, and have success with it, then you can apply/adapt that philosophy to other areas of your life. Improving your confidence? Well that all depends on you. In Martial Arts, you will no doubt fail, learn from your mistakes, keep trying, and eventually have some sort of success. Confidence is basically knowing you will succeed one way or another, despite the failures/rejections along the way. Good Luck.

Confidence is not mysterious. It is simply a knowledge or "faith" if you will in who you are. There are a lot of instructors that try to teach self-confidence. I notice these students very quickly. They have one attitude and personality inside the dojo and another outside the safety of those walls. It is a "false" confidence.

Confidence is most likely linked to your self-esteem. People usually have either a hight self-esteem or a low self-esteem. Since self-esteem is your "opinion" of yourself, we often hear the "crack it up" mantra. When your down, pump yourself up, speak positively, you can do it, etc, etc. I'd like to submit an idea. If low self-esteem is a false image of who you are, and can simply be changed by changing how you view yourself. Then high self-esteem is also a false image. It's just false in a positive manner. What's the answer then?? Easy. Have no opinion of yourself. You are who you are. Know yourself completely, good, bad, and the ugly. Accept yourself, then began to train. At the end of the day, what does it really matter what you think of yourself. After all, you're not the judge of your actions. The law wouldn't stand for that.. it would be ridiculous. If criminals were allowed to pass judgement on themselves for what they've done. Why so then do we feel as if we are somehow capable of passing judgement on ourselves in regards to our own actions. We're not. We just simply are who we are. Try to establish your moral ground, but don't judge yourself for your successes or your failures. Just know yourself. Inside of that you'll start to find a confidence in yourself.

My 55-years' experience to be myself has given following "rules" for me to build up my self confidence:

1
Be an unique individual. You do not have to be something else, and the worsest thing would be to collect features of several idols to be something else. It leads to a catastrophe.

2
Check (at least from time to time) what are your strengths and weaknesses. Try to build up strenghts and suppress negative features.

3
Do not believe that somebody (like Army, School, a Guru e.t.c.) can independently and automatically improve your self confidence. To collect too many good advises leads to a confusion. Do the work for building your self confidence yourself - so you can be sure that it bases on your own opinions about yourself, not on those of others.

Last but not least an example: an angry wife tried to "teach" her husband to be brave and fine (just like she wanted). It led finally to a great confusion and depression in his mind. After divorcing he started to observe himself and is all OK. today.

dance naked in the streets while telling yourself it's everyone's uhm. great fortune, shall we say, that they're able to set eyes on you dancing naked. who knows, they might even declare that day 'naked dancing day', & you might be in all the history books 40 years from now!
