I was wondering if 5'1'' is too short to be police officer or a detective. Anyone know?

YES,You only have to be slightly taller than dog sh*t..lol....I also agree with (trigimp).I once had the privilege to be a policemen. Then it happened.I had to go along in order to get along. When i say i had to go along ,i don't mean that i participated in corruption.I had to look the other way when fellow officers did.I reported this at first, only to find out that my superior was the ring leader. From thin on i was on my own when i needed back up.And was labeled a whistle blower. And ridiculed. Not being able to stomach what my fellow officers where getting away with, and after a few harsh words ,I quit .So unless you are able to lower your self to the level of scum,I suggest that you find an other profession.65% of all police officers in the US has committed a crime or knows some one on the force that has.The other 35% is lying.lol

Nope, we had a female officer who was 5'1" if she stretched in socks.
It is more to do with ability, attitude and motivation to do the job. The person inside you is very important. I did see a lot of male cops who were suffering from "small man's syndrome" which is recognizable by a need to confront people and interject themselves into everything. And no I didn't make that up, it's a recognized phenomenon and I believe it was the FBI that coined the term.
Don't wear you size on your sleeve, and strut around, do your job, be proud of who and what you are and you'll do fine.

Not since 1978 if you are talking about the U.S.; prior to then there was a rule that an officer must be at least 5'9" and I even recall a case where a man was 5' 8 1/2" and had a friend whack him on the head with a board so his skull would swell so he would make the 5'9" mark.

However, since they started allowing women in Law Enforcement, they threw out the old rules and discrimation and if you are in the U.S., your height should not be an issue.

No,
I'm just an inch or two above that height and I do fine. As long as you can pass the police physical testing you have a chance.

well about being an officer i guess it depends what kind...traffic? or..?
honestly i think the only place height would matter is if you were trying to be a bodyguard or trying to get into the army.

but about being a detective....i think you need to ask yourself what tasks will i have to perform that require a height > 5'1"

Typically bigger is better in that world. question is, do you really hate your fellow humans that much to want to beat up folks, attack innocent civilians, shoot and kill people and get away with it, lie under oath, and every thing else those scum of society do. In many police forces the people they attract are the bullies that liked to beat up people in grade school and take their lunch money. if they don't get arrested first and slip by with a clean juvinile record, they join a police force to be professional bullies. The percentage of "good cops" is a lot smaller than depicted on the fantasy shows of TV. And once surrounded by the scum of the earth it is easy to become like your peers. Don't do it if you have any morals or believe in god. They are statistically the profession with the highest amount of domestic violence, and tend to be bullies in their private life as well after a few years of brain washing and power hungry behavior. They teach each other how to testify in court (meaning lie). They shoot more people than all firearm deaths by other combined causes.

Here is a question for you like the chicken and the egg....

Are bad people naturally drawn to become cops, or does being a cop turn good people into criminals and murderers?

I would answer that question before you make up your mind and seriously ask yourself if you want to be a cop because you are shorter than average and are trying to compensate and become a bully with a badge and a gun. If you are a good person at heart, you'll find a better, safer, more honest, and more financially rewarding profession.
