Yes, they are designed to manipulate hormonal signals, therefore, it gets it's little chemical meat hooks into the neurons and synapses of your brain and your body grows dependent on the change, depending on the potency and duration... then, you quit the drug and suffer withdrawals.

That is why psychiatrists are liars when they tell you a drug goes out of your system completely and is benign, because they don't tell you that your body wants it and often times, the side affects of the drug are mistaken for the diagnosis or disease, and unknowingly, they've trapped you to take more meds and for the rest of your life.

I see no difference in the dangers of street drugs versus prescription drugs. After all, in the Journal of the American Medical Association has several full blown reports and articles stating that, the fourth leading cause of death is drug interactions from "properly" prescribed drugs.

How many of you out there even pop an Advil for the littlest things when you don't really need it? Did you know that you can die from mixing a moderate amount of alcohol and Advil? Advil is an enzyme inhibitor and suppresses the bodies ability to convert new tissues and congests the liver.

anyone can become addicted to anything, not just drugs.

what happens in addiction of any kind is complex, but if you look at the picture of persay, a puzzle, the ingredient or chemical compound makeup of a specific drug usually has to fit idealy for any reaction...hence a "chain reaction". if you get pleasure from a drug the peice of the "puzzle" in the brain fits the peice (substance) in the drug.

another good way is to experiment with magnets. if you try to put a postive and a positive together (same with negative and negative) you will get a force. if you join them positive and negative you get a response. this same thing happens in drug addcitions.

not all get addicted to medication....it depends on how the chemicals in the brain react to the chemicals in the medication and how the person perceives the sensation.

good luck!

it's not the ingredients in drugs that cause the addiction. if that was the case the big corporations would use those additives in everything. what causes someone to become addicted varies depending on the drug. drugs cause chemical reactions in the body. depending on the drug it can block chemical re-uptake into the brain or cause naturally occurring chemical levels to increase. the addiction comes from your body systems getting use to the artificial supply of these chemicals. causing sickness, or any of numerous other side effects from withdrawl. so it's not a mental addiction, as it's more that the body needs the drugs to operate in a normal fashion.
