A lot of times, age really doesn't matter. When I was 23, I met someone who was 19, and people said the age difference was too great! Nowadays, I am 38 and this person would be 34. So, what's the big deal?
If this 39 year old genuinely likes you as a person, then maybe you should pursue it; if he likes you only because you are young, then stay away. The reason for this is if he only likes young girls, then when you are 32 he may want a new 22 year old. Of course, the only way to find out his motives is to get to know that man.

I'm 21 years old, and even back when I was 17 or 18, older guys (and by older I mean mid30's and 40's) were asking me out all the time.
I wouldn't say its an ego thing, maybe they simply prefer younger women. At least in my situation, I didn't find anything weird with it, b/c they approached me in a casual manner and actually took the time to sit down and have a conversation before even asking for my number.
But You do need to keep in mind, that with such an age difference, the two of you may not have much in common, since you are at different stages in your life--

something I read about this in maxim magazine in an article in the late 90s refers to this kind of activity as 'poaching'. Wherein certain eschelons of the civillian culture women in their 20s go for guys in thier 30s because they are established and can be responsible, ready with the nesting etc.
There is nothing uncommon about this and perhaps this guy sees nothing wrong with hitting on someone 17 years his junior. Although you might want to check if he is a foreigner. For the less developed economies in the world this is quite the norm.
39 seems a bit extreme though. Find out his story for your morbid curiosity then before telling him you are turned off that he wasnt born anywhere near the same decade.

not just an ego thing, i think it has to deal with how men are more visual creatures - they like a nice "tight" body sort of deal. Also, back in the caveman days (this is a theory i saw on the discovery channel actually) men instinctively look for women that are in the perfect child bearing age.

The same reason a 12-year-old boy looks at a woman in their twentys. It has nothing to do with the age of the admirer. It has to do with how attractive you are in general, no matter your age. I know lots of 20 something guys that think Heather Locklear is still hot.

2 factors: ego and control. They think a younger woman is easier to control. Plus they like having a younger woman to make them look good. 3rd factor is all men want to be with a woman in their 20s bec thats when were at the height of our beauty and it just a pleasure. When I was 20 I was dating a 49yo.

yes its an ego thing, but then again women mature faster than men, they still act like kids at 40 lol. your probably both on the same wavelength although if I were you i'd feel a little gross with a 39 year old fella !

Young women are beautiful.
Not to say older women aren't.
Young faces have no wrinkles, their skin is still taut and firm.
It is also a way of mainaining our own youth.
The minute younger women stop looking at us we KNOW we are old.
I am 40, my wife is 35. I love her dearly, but sometimes I lovingly threaten her that when she is 40 I will trade her in for 2 20's.

My husband is now 68 years old, and I am 50 years old. Our age was never an issue because of that thing called LOVE. I dont think it is weird and I did not give anyone a reason to think that it is weird either. Dont be confuse
