One spends time with their family when they MAKE it a PRIORITY, and plan on that time being JUST for the family -- no TV, No Movies, NO noise, just together as a family and having fun -- Board Games, working on a Jigsaw Puzzle, Charades, whatever. Same goes with little "day-trips" -- I would block out the time in my schedule, and pack up my children/me in the car (with our cameras of course!) and just spend the time exploring another hidden "gem" around the area where I was stationed.

Ask how their day went. Go for a drive. Eat dinner together on a regular basis. Enjoy a movie everybody will like. Play a game... board game, an outside game or even a video game! Go for a walk... the possibilities are endless!=)
