Hi,
Yes I lived there for 4 years. It is the 5th biggest city of Turkey. Traffic is not as bad as Istanbul. It is on the skirts of Mount Uludag which has big skiing resorts. Bursa is famous with its delicious "chestnuts", "peaches", and of course "Iskender Kebab". Transportation is easier than Istanbul. Since it is the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, it has many historical places to see.

It's a lovely city at the foot of Uludağ (Great Mountain), which is a popular ski center in the winter.

Bursa was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire and have some really nice mosques and also the Tombs (Türbe) of Osman and Orhan Gazi, the first 2 Sultans of the Ottoman Empire. The city is famous for its trade with silk which is done in Koza Han(the silk bazaar).

At the outskirts of Bursa lies the village Cumalıkızık that dates back to the 14'th century. It is on the world heritage list. And it's a really nice village where there are people living and working. There is a very nice little restaurant with excellent food.

I can truly recommend a visit to Bursa!

My boyfriend's family is from there, so I go reasonably often. "Yesil (Green) Bursa," as it's known, was once the capital of the Ottoman Empire and thus has some fabulous old mosques and other historical sites to check out. The city is known as the birthplace of Iskender kebap, a dish made of buttered doner meat, topped with tomato sauce and yogurt (it's a heart attack on a plate--it's heavenly! ;-) )

There are many mineral springs near by, giving way to a slew of hammams and hot baths. The one at the Celik Palas Hotel, up the hill a bit near the neighborhood of Cekirge, is my personal favorite.

People there are ridiculously friendly. The town is a bit more conservative compared to Istanbul or Izmir, but there are still plenty of bars. I wouldn't go alone to one as a single woman, but that's just common sense.

In the winter time Uludag, the mountain just overlooking the city, is a prime ski resort for Turks. (The mountain also lends its name to a popular brand of Turkish soft drinks...as their slogan goes...it's efsane (a legend) ;-) )

In short, go if you can.

I've been there. It's got old Ottoman houses and several mosques. Great skiing in the winter, too.
