If you are referring to the language, absolutely, when spoken so gracefully, it's beautiful !

It all depends what you mean by "important". If you mean as a "bridge" language for speaking to the inhabitants of many countries around the world, I think you could find more helpful languages for that, because Italy did not have a lasting impact as a colonial language. On the other hand, if you want to read Dante in the original, or are somehow going to be imbedded in an Italian community, then I'd personally say it would be a delightful language to learn. (I just love the sound of spoken Italian!)

Well for Italian people of course. But it is only spoken in Italy and some part of Switzerland. So it isn't as important as some others European languages :
- English of course.
- Spanish : Spain, Mexico, South America, Central America and the States close to Mexico
- French : France and a lot of African countries
- Portuguese : Portugal, Brasil, Angola and Mozambique
- German : Germany, Autria and Switzerland

if u mean as language,so u have to know any language u learn is a value added for u.
if u mean Italian in general, so yes they are important and if they not then god wouldn't create them
