Black hair needs to be stripped before it can be colored a different color. I've had black hair before, and I wanted to go lighter and it's impossible without going to a hair salon. The more you attempt to dye you hair with at-home products the more difficult it'll be to strip you hair of the black color (not to mention it'll fry your hair!). What you need to do is go to a hair salon and have them doing it for you. I recommend calling and let them know your situation. They had to specially bleach my hair and then wait about a day to dye it the color I wanted so it wasnt overly processed. It's a nightmare, and if you turn your hair burgandy it'll be the same thing. Redish hair is the second most difficult hair color to change.

I specialized in color and corrective color when I worked in the salon. To get your hair a burgundy shade, you actually need to use hair color specifically for dark hair. You can find it at any Sally Beauty Supply. It is open to the public so the color is easy to get. The shades you want are made by L'Oreal Professional. Buy one or two tubes (based on your hair length) and mix it with 2-4 oz. of 30 or 40 volume developer (the higher the volume, the more lift of your original color). But please, please do not bleach your hair. If you do that, any burgundy shade you put onto bleached hair will fade out very quickly and you will be left with a very odd color after the fading.

They have this stuff called "Sun In" Spray in Hair lightener! And what you do is spray it on your hair and blow dry it, then when your hair is dry, repeat, until the desired lightness is reached! Then, SHAMPOO your hair!! then put the burgundy RINSE in your hair!! Not a burgundy color treatment, but a RINSE!!! The sun in spray will lighten your hair but, it will be PERMANENT!!

With black hair, you first have to bleach it, and bleach is dangerous stuff which could burn your scalp if you don't know how to use it. Talk to a hairdresser. These people know what they're doing.
