You're not going to get any cheap five star hotels, but some are a lot less than others. The Peninsula is worth checking out, it is consistently rated amongst the top hotels in the world and you might find rooms for around $250.00US. Compare that to the Oriental, where you can expect to pay $450-500 a night. The JW Marriot is reasonably priced for around the $200.00 dollar range. I would check some of internet hotel sights (Asiarooms,Asia-hotels-com etc.) or check with the hotels themselves, the Hyatt Erawan,Intercontinental, the Pan Pacific, Le Bua at State Tower, the Conrad and many more offer prices you woiuld expect to pay much more in other cities. Bangkok offers some of the best hotels and service in the world, and for a fair price. If these prices are a little high for you, there are many excellent 4 star hotels at significant savings. Hope this helps you, and have a good trip.

There are at least 4 hotels that are 5 star under USD 100 per night. Swissotel Le Concorde, Siam Hotel, JW Marriot Hotel and Davis Bangkok Hotel. The Swissotel and JW Marriot Hotel are located near either the subway or skytrain. I just realized that you would have to pay "triple rate" for 3 people.
I have stayed at the Grand Mercure Fortune Hotel, a 4 star hotel on Ratchadapisek Road. It's probably a 3.5 actually. But, for $79 per night for a triple it is reasonable. Their rooms are okay for 3 nights. Make sure you get a room on the back side, I have heard that the rooms in the front get the traffic noise. There is the Fortune Mall connected right to the hotel. There is a market Tesco/Lotus at the other end, a Baskin Robbins, Pizza Hut and Mickey D's in there. They have many stores, an IT floor, clothing stores, drug stores and a food court. It's a 3 minute walk to the subway station Phra Ram 9. Fairly convenient. Sukhumvit is a 10 minute subway ride. Shopping can be done in the mall. Or go to Pratunam area and it's about 20 minute by Subway and Skytrain.
Check out www.asiarooms.com for other hotels. Asiarooms.com has reviews of the hotels that are pretty honest.
Good luck.

Well, the 5-stars hotels do have a reputation to uphold, so you are more likely to find 3-stars hotel with 5-stars price but not 5-stars hotel at 3-stars price. The 5-stars hotels are located in the choicest locations and provide impeccable standard, so all these will add up to the price. So bear with the cost if you want to stay in a 5-stars hotel.

They are all cheap compared to most places. The Orientel and Palace are the two best hotels but will range from about 200-300us a night. Check out the Landmark or the Sheraton Sukhumvit. Theywill be 100-150 .The Davis is very inexpensive although that is probably more like a 4 star.
