i would be delighted because my son would be. i would be a little upset over him being left in the baggie for so long. i do recommend that if you chose to give fish as a party favor, you purchase them a pet store, not someplace like walmart (as those have little chance for survivial). i do love the idea, but some people probably wont.

Although it's a cute idea, I really think you may want to pre check with all the parents that will be responsible for a new pet. Might be a better plan at an age where all your guests can take care of it themselves. 3, 4, and even 5 year olds generally can't. Plus, as a former pet store owner, those bags are meant to keep em alive for 1/2 an hour or so, maybe 2 at best. I think you might get alot of fatalities by the end of a party. :(

I don't think I would be MAD so much as annoyed (if there is really a huge difference) Maybe some parents don't want their child to have a pet and you giving them one as a "treat" at a birthday party could open up into a whole lot of problems between the child and parents....I dunno......I have a 3 1/2 year old girl and I am not sure that I would really like it if she were to come home from a birthday party with a new pet goldfish. that would mean I would have to supply food for it and clean its bowl for her until she was old enough to do it for herself.

No don't give any gold fish to a 3 or 4 year old party. Instead of fishes give them goodies bag that all they need. Don't go out of your way to buy fishes which some parents don't want a pet for there child yet. It's good to have a theme for a party but not to hand out fishes. Just hand out goodie bags with little something for them. Good luck

I don't thing to many parents would be mad but they might not want their child to have a fish so before you do all of that why not go threw the list and ask if they mind and if even one parent tells you no then maybe get a tiny fish bowl they do sale them and fill them with blue jello(water) and maybe some gold fish crackers

I don't think I would be mad, but I would be a little annoyed and put out. I would indignantly complain to my husband that night :)! I actually think it is a cute idea. Could you check with all the parents to see if they mind? Of course, if even one says no, I guess you couldn't do it.
Maybe you could do up the bowls (filled with candy fish?), but don't give the fish? Then the parents can decide if they want to get their child the real thing.

have a 2 year old and thats actually a good idea! My son loves fish and they're easy pets to take care of, even for a 3 year old. Feed it once or twice a day and it'll do the rest. I, personally wouldn't b upset about a fish, not a snake or some other slimy feature I belive would have to be a big NO but I believe a fish is harmless. Good Luck!!

cool idea! but i recommend giving out the fish and the bowl AFTER the party... both for the fish's safety, and for the kids'... because they might be too distracted with the fish (and play with the fish inside its fragile plastic bag) to care enough about the party, and the bowls might get broken during all the ruckus.. (3 year olds aren't exactly perfectly behaved lil angels you know... i have a 2 year old nephew that's too much for my whole family! and that's just on his own.. hahaha)
good luck! ;D

I once gave my friend's daughter a fish as a surprise when I learned hers had died. Turns out, not such a good idea! My friend was happy at the idea of having no more fish to take care of and then I showed up with a new one. By the way, she has sworn, for the past 4 years, that she would someday buy my son a ferret as revenge!

No way would I want my child coming home with another pet that we don't want or have room for. The fish would suffer in the plastic bag until it is let out, and probably too many parents would not want their child to have a pet goldfish. Most of the goldfish would probably end up in the toilet or dead less than a week after the party anyway. Would you really like it if your child came home with an unwanted pet?
