I had a question...

I had my tooth repositioned due to a fall, and I have had no pain since the accident, even when it was out of place. But something I'm not sure of is a pulsation sensation I sometimes feel for a couple seconds, maybe 2 or 3 seconds at a time...just now and then, not daily. My accident happened on the 4th of December, and I just had the wire taken off a week ago which stabalized the tooth.

Is this pulsating ok? It's not painful at all, I can just feel it on the tooth, then it stops. I'm hoping it's a sign of it healing properly

You said repositioned due to a fall. Is it that you hit it when you fell, knocked it loose, and the dentist used a splint bonding to hold it in position, hoping it would tighten back up? If that is the case then yes, you may have a problem. The pulsating you are feeling is the nerve in the tooth, which has probably gone through so much trauma that it is dead or dying. Some teeth die and the pulp just backs off, no pain no problem. Others die a slow, agonizing death and want to take you with them, in pain. The first one, the painless one, is tricky because you may think the tooth is ok and not realize an abscess has been brewing over time. But because the tooth is dead, it can't let you know until the surrounding bone is damaged and lost due to infection. That's when the pain sets in if at all. Or you notice the tooth turning dark one day and not have any pain. Now the second one, the agonizing death, make you want to die with it tooth, it's not so tricky. This one won't die without a fight, and the fight usually sends you running to the dentist in so much pain that you'll swear he's your best friend! At any rate, tell your dentist about the sensation your having now. He'll want to do a x ray now and later on, to compare them and check for an abscess that may be forming. Or he will want to eliminate the possibility of any damage occurring by doing an elective root canal now. Either way good luck and I hope it all works out without too much pain.
