It seems to depend upon the source of the information.

7 is a common number for the chakra system. (could be 6-8 depending on belief). The first location tends to be either at the base of the spine or somewhere around the perineum. (male or female it's a location on the human body and it is the grounding chakra). The base is also considered the earth chakra.
If the perineum is considered as base, then the base of the spine is considered 2nd and in collusion with the solar plexus.

From there on up.....and the colors are red upwards to the crown which is violet or purple depending on the number of Chakras considered in the system.

The blockages are disruptions that discontinue the flow from within a single area...or that block the upward/downward flow of energy between chakras. (often thought or emotional in context).

I hope you get better answers than mine....because I researched this concept many times in the past. I still don't really understand it.

There are seven chakras in our body, you will find more information about them here
http://www.healthmantra.com/reiki/chakras.htm

You are talking about the root chakra - at the base of the spine. It represents grounding - to life's realities. A disturbing childhood, or even a seemingly simple incident in childhood, which shook a child's sense of security, could cause imbalances in this chakra.

This chakra even gets balanced if you move away from home and don't 'feel at home' in the new place.
