How large of a ball? Are you sure the parakeet actually ate it? They peck at things like that, decimate them with their beak, but don't usually actually swallow them. If you're sure that's what happened, call an avian vet in the morning and ask what they suggest. Watch the droppings to make sure they are of normal consistency and as many as usual. You can't really wait for the bird to start acting sick, if you're sure it actually ate the styrofoam. Birds hide their illness, so predators can't tell they are weak. By the time they actually look ill, it's often too late to help them.

If your sure he ate it, I'm sorry but he doesn't have a good chance of surviving. He shouldn't have had any access to Styrofoam . Try to get him to an emergency vet now, he may have just of been picking at it, and nnot actually digested any of it.
Good luck, I hope he/she lives.

Swallowed styrofoam is a death sentence.
Digestive juices turn it into poison.
Get to a vet now and see if there is any thing they can do.
This is an emergency. Please go now!
