The commonly held belief is that if you are a sinner, or don't accept Jesus or whatever, you go to hell and are punished by Satan. Is this true?

It seems counter logical to me. If lucifer is in hell because he rebelled from god and was cast down into the underworld, shouldn't he reward rather than punish those who do not obey gods rules?

This is a question about cultural beliefs. So please, no comments telling me I'm a stupid Christian for beileving in this, because frankly, I'm pretty agnostic.

God = Love
Heaven = Being in God's presence.
Hell = Being out of God's presence.

Nothing impure gets into Heaven. Purification of sins needs to happen before a person gets into heaven. Some say this is Purgatory, however, Purgatory is a quickly fleeting doctrine. Old beliefs were that Purgatory was a place desired to go to because it meant that eventually, you would get to Heaven.

Biblically, Jesus does reference "Gehenna" (Unquenchable Fire) where body & soul can be lost

Satan is not in hell yet. He will be after judgement day. And I don't see anything wrong with being a Christian. If you stop worrying about people thinking you are stupid, you might get saved. Even the bible says that God chooses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. So all those stupid Christians are really smart, because they just let arrogant people think they're stupid. stupid.

I think what's supposed to happen is that just not being in God's presence is supposed to be the punishment. I'm not sure whether Satan is supposed to be doing the punishment, but I think his "ruling hell" is mainly due to the fact that he was the first person to be banished there, and so I'd guess that by going to hell you're not really being punished by Satan, but more have to spend eternity in the absence of god WITH satan.
I could be wrong, Went to catholic school for 10 years so I hope I at least shed some light.

There can be no reward with Satan because he can't give rewards. Why? When speaking of eternity, there are only two sides: heaven or hell, life or death, light or darkness. Hell is the state of eternal separation from God. This means 1) that those in hell know by proven fact that there is a God, 2) it means there is a heaven of eternal happiness and joy, and 3) they also know that by their rejection of God, they also reject the light, life, happiness and glory of Him. So then what are the opposites of those things? Darkness, death, suffering, damnation. Satan suffers this way also.

Nobody punishes you in Hell in terms of an entity. Hell itself is the concept of torment in tangible form (if you can wrap your mind around that. I know I can't). As for Satan not rewarding people, Satan isn't trying to make any friends. Until you accept Christ, you're his no matter what. His team doesn't gain players. It just starts out with all of them, but loses some along the way. He can still mess with those he's lost, and that's part of the reason Christians suffer, but that's a whole 'nother topic in itself.

maximum believers have the witness of God by which there's no doubt, the organic guy, they who have not the adventure of the recent delivery, by which there's a quickening interior the spirit of their heart, consummated by technique of the Holy Spirit, believing the witnes of the Spirit (a million John 5:10, a million Corinthians 2: 9-a million-14. One of the main reasons I don't beleive in hell. The one you stated, that Satan should reward those who are bad, and that god and satan are basically in league if this doctrine is true. Why would God send people to his archenemy, like the're business partners or somthing.

The concept is exactly like a gang-thug running a protection racket: God (the thug) says to you "you have a choice; you can do it my way, or not. If you choose to not do it my way, then I'm gonna torture you forever. But it's your choice."

That type of "system" is actually illegal in every state in America.
But somehow it's glorious when a deity does it....
Weird, huh?
