How young?

Wraps are always good...but being you don't want sandwiches...how about helping the child make pigs in a blanket (wrap biscuits around cheese and hotdogs then YOU put them in the oven, obviously) or putting together a salad.

Also, you could teach your child how to make instant pudding and the like, too.

Um, I once created a recipe that was printed in the "Friend" magazine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it is very easy. It is a miniature version of Mexican beso (kiss) cookies. You take two vanilla wafer cookies, coat with a mixture of raspberry syrup and raspberry jam (heat the syrup and raspberry jam if lumps persist). Stick the two cookies flat sides together, so they look like pink lips. Roll in dry, flaked coconut. Let sit for at least an hour so the raspberry syrup soaks in a little and doesn't drip off when you serve on a plate. Easy, easy, easy, and you get to learn a little bit about Mexican bakery culture. You can use up about 2/3 of a box of vanilla wafer cookies with a small jar of jam and a small jar of syrup together.

My son and I always make fruit salad together and he loves it (He started making this with me at age 4). He has his own "PLASTIC" knife and slices bananas, watermelon, strawberries and anything else that is easy to slice. We also put cinnamon in there to sweeten it just a tad and call it our secret ingredient. He loves that!!

Also try home made pizza. You could buy the Boboli crust and just pile on the toppings. Whatever the kids choose or like will make it more fun for them. This is a big hit with both my 5 year old and my 2 year old.

Hope this helps. Have fun in the kitchen!! We do.

No bake cookies.Let them measure the ingredients and pour it in the bowls. The only thing they will need help with is mixing it.They will get tired before it is thoroughly mixed. But they can spoon it themselves too. graham crackers and peanut butter.Pea salad.Muffin mixes.
