The Catholic Sacrament of Penance is the method by which individuals can have their sins absolved by a priest. Catholics believe that Jesus Christ gave this method to the Church.
There are several names for the Sacrament of Penance. It is known by the names penance, reconciliation or confession (Catechism of the Catholic Church, Sections 1423-1442.) Confession is the most common name.
