I know this might be a little too much for some of the little guys, but big men like me can handle it.

The military doesn't make ANY assault rifles. Firearms manufacturers do.

The military just buys them.

30mm?

Talk about "stopping power".

Yeah, I'm not sure that even Schwarzenegger could handle a full-auto 30mm rifle.

The XM109 sniper rifle shoots a 25mm explosive shells and weighs 35 pounds. That is with just 5 rounds, imagine how heavy it would be with a full 30rd clip and extra ammo.

A 30mm assault rifle would be the most impractical rifle ever made. Anything other than semi-automatic fire (which wouldn't be an assault rifle) would be very inaccurate and to be able to hit anything you'd have to be prone. And besides it would be total overkill and the weight and power would be unpractical for any ground soldier.

An assault rifle fires multiple rounds. It's either semi-automatic, fully-automatic or burst capable. And no one on this planet uses one to hunt. They're made for war, and nothing else. My family has always had land, always had animals, and always had guns. My grandfather is a veteran and the weapon he carried in the South Pacific is displayed, unloaded, in the back of the house. The only active weapons are an air pistol and a small handgun, both stored unloaded. Those are both kept on the ranch, not at the house. The air pistol is used for small vermin and the pistol is for the occasional coyote. I really don't see the need for heavier weaponry than that. I certainly don't see why anyone would need a gun unless they had land and animals. We wouldn't even have the pistol if not for the coyotes. Air pistol will get rid of most problem animals. If you're so afraid of a home invasion, get a German Shepherd and a security system.

No, but they do purchase 40 mm grenade launchers and attach them to assault rifles. A weapon of that caliber makes too much recoil for a shoulder fired weapon, at least one with rapid fire capability. That caliber of weapon is a cannon and are mounted on aircraft.

Edit: I just remembered a Popular Mechanics story about the Barrett 25 mm "Payload" rifle, the XM-109. Fires 25 mm ammo like that of the Bradley fighting vehicle, slower velocity though due to shorter barrel. Most be a hoot to shoot!

The Messerschmitt 109 (WWII Nazi fighter plane) sometimes was armed with a .30mm motor-kannon. To convert mm to American calibration you multiply by 4. That comes to 1.20 caliber. Try firing that from the shoulder! The obvious answer is "NO!"

Of course, there are thirty caliber assualt rifles in many variations and calibers. The FN FAL is probably the best know worldwide, or the AK-47. The FAL is 7.62x51mm and the AK is 7.62x39mm. Both are considered 'thirty caliber.'

Destry, if you divide 30 by by 25.4 you get approx. 1.2; multiply 30 by 4 and you get... 1.2 My way is a short-cut, it is not wrong. Work smarter, not harder.

You are not a big enough man to handle a 30mm rifle. No one is. You know the 30mm GAU-8 on the A-10 warthog? When it fires, it produces as much recoil as one of the warhogs two engines do forward thrust. It makes the plane slow down.

Even in a single shot, the recoil from a 30mm can make an APC shudder. The 30mm cannons mounted on APCs are mounted on a hydraulic or pneumatic damper. So they can absorb the recoil.

a 30mm is an aircraft or veh weapon. It is by no means a human held gun. Kapish?

You want a serious answer?

No they do not field a shoulder fired 30mm assault rifle.

Anything over 20mm is to my knowledge considered a grenade anyway.

The military is considering a 25mm shoulder fired sniper rifle. Its a "Barret" rifle and its called the "payload". Yes that is a 1"inch rifle.

Heres a link.

first off im guessing you aren't very big because you are acting tough on the internet. im guessing you were drunk when you typed this. a 30mm rifle(which wouldn't be considered a rifle because its too big) would have enough recoil to break your shoulder, and knock you too the ground. no there is no such thing. they do issue 40mm gernade launchers, but that is not a rifle, and from what ive heard it has alot of recoil.

edit: the guy above who gave a conversion from mm to inches is wrong. there are 25.4mm in one inch, so you would divide 30 by 25.4.

No really, even if they do what could they use it on?

For a 30mm, it is a waste of resource of bullets to use it on infantry. and make the troopers slower to move.

If they want to use it on Armored Vehicles, they can't go through because, normally it at least need 60mm Armor piercing to through the Armor.

So. it doesn't means big guns works, you have to use the best weapons on the favorable situation.
