That bothers me too. I try to capitalize it, but sometimes I forget.

I often write it in lower case and by that I don't mean any disrespect. It's just that I don't believe in any god, so when I write the word I am not referring to any specific god but rather the general concept of god. When I am referring to some specific god I usually use the upper case (or alternatively, that religion's name of their god). I think many people do the same. Even some believers write "there is no god but God", using the upper case to distinguish between the "true" God and the "false" gods (according to their beliefs). Naturally not everyone agrees on who is the "true" God, but if you are going to feel hurt every time someone who believes something different than you doesn't recognize your god as God you are going to be miserable.

well there are reasons to find it disrespectful, and there are reasons to not be offended. I can tell you that when I first started College, I was a full blown Wiccan believer. However, after getting blessed with such amazing roommates, I decided to convert (well, it was more of a FEELING.. but we won't get into that.) ANYWAY lol, I had no idea that there was a difference. Once they explained it to me, I quickly corrected my mistake, I sometimes slip and write it lower cased, but I am getting better. I don't think you should get offended until you've at least explained it to the person spelling it that way. Although if they continue, I would be offended because, well somewhere in the bible... I can't remember WHICH part... I think Isaiah but I could be wrong, they refer to the devil as the god (little g) of earth. So you aren't alone, but keep in mind it could be out of ignorance. :-)

Why should I use capital letters? For a imaginary being I do not either subscribe to let alone acknowledge gods existence it's grammatically correct to use a lowercase 'g' and until you can prove this is god's first name I will continue to use a lower case g of course you first have to prove god actually exists.

It is disrespectful to the rules of writing yes. Hey lighten up people sometimes forget to use the shift key okay? Besides God is not the name it is merely a title. Have you not seen the debates here over what his name really is?

I don't find it disrespectful because I sometimes forget to captialize the G on God and spell it with a lower case. I think it's more of a moment in lapsed spelling habbits than anything.

I find it pathetically petty that anyone would dwell on something so minor as to whether someone is using a capital g or not. I also think God would think so too. There is much greater disrespect going on towards God than this.

God, with a capital 'G' refers solely to the Judeo-Christian God; the Jehovah, Yahweh El-Ohim God of the Bible and the Jewish texts. The word 'god' with a small 'g' refers to any deity ever thought of. It can mean anything from Zeus to Baal to Shiva. It's not a matter of respect or disrespect. It's a matter of differntiation.

Well, then, I guess you'd find the Hebrew Old Testament manuscripts disrespectful and offensive, because they didn't even HAVE capital letters. Really, is your god so pathetic that he'd get upset over something as trivial as that? If not, then neither should you.

I personally do not find it disrespectful.

Maybe just an awareness that, depending on the way the word is used in a sentence, whether it was grammatically correct or not.

The word "God" is a label of sorts that humans have collectively agreed to call the highest of high.

Other religions have different more specific names~ Jehovah being one.

I think the word "God" is a somewhat generic term, and so I do not think it is disrespectful.
