I use to run a puppy rescue here in Texas, here is my formula recipe & tips.

Puppy Forumla:

INGREDIENTS:

1 can Pet Milk (evaporated NOT condensed)
2 egg yolks (NO whites - seperate them)
2 Tbsp. Clear Karo Syrup

DIRECTIONS:

Blend all ingredients well.
Feed to pups with an eyedropper or vet aprooved bottle
DO NOT tilt pups back, they can strangle or drown on formula!
Be sure the puppy's head is facing flat or in a downward position.

TIPS:

You can place a 100 watt lightbulb in a corner, over a kennel or container for heat.
I however DO NOT recommend placing them on a heating pad in any way, they will pee on it and can shock themselves to death.

Wash their pee pees, fannies, and bellies OFTEN! Puppies who have been abandoned by the momma, or orphan pups, do not have the momma to lick them clean all the time. YOU will have to do this instead, [not lick them I meant WASH them LOL], being SURE they do not develope a rash. Some rashes can KILL them, because they develope baterial infections from the feces & urine sitting on their delicate skin. Use baby shampoo & warm water, test the water on your own wrist to be sure it won't burn their sensitive skin.

Keep them beside your bed or in your room, being sure to set an alarm to feed them every 2-4 hours. This will depend upon when they need it, you can work this out during the day, by offering them food every couple hours and seeing how long they go before accepting the forula. This also depends upon the puppies age and size.

You may also substitute their night time feeding for Pedialyte for children, this can be bought at most grocers. You simply add one egg yolk (blended in well) to it before feeding. This will sustain them longer than regular forumla, and thus you might be able to sleep more through the night before the next feeding.

A lot of people don't know about the washing off of the puppies rectal and urinal, as well as belly areas so often. But this is one of the most important tips I can offer. Too many orphaned puppies die from baterial infections, due to their mommies not being able to wash them continually as they potty.

The chance of a puppies survival after being orphaned is MUCH increased, when it has had it's mother's milk at least ONCE. A mother dog has something called Colostrum in her first milk. This is what makes the puppies immune to things, sort of like a booster shot for a child.

Powdered milk is not the best thing. The best would be Esbillac which is formulated for puppies or "Just Born" which is also a puppy formula. Both are expensive though so you may need to make a formula. In that case, you can make one with a can of evaporated milk to two cans of water, add an egg yolk, pinch of salt and a forth a tsp of KARO syrup. Mix it together well, warm it up and put it in bottles. You can get the bottles at a pet store for pretty cheap. Sometimes you need to widen the nipple by heating a safety pin with a lighter and poking it in the nipple. This won't widen it too much, just stick it in and pull it out quickly while the pin is hot.
You can fill the bottles making sure, just like with a baby, that it is only a bit warm and not at all hot. You can refrigerate the extra mixture and use it on the next feeding or you can double the batch if you need more.
Each time you feed the pups you will need to take a slightly warm and damp soft cloth or cotton ball and massage where the pup pees until it goes. Then massage the anal area gently and the pup will usually poop a bit too. This is really important because at that age the pups need help to potty or they can get very sick and even die.
Also, you will need to keep them warm but not too warm. I've used heating pads on low with a towel around them. You can keep the pups in a box and cover the box with a sheet to keep the stimulation and light down while they are not feeding. They will need to be fed every few hrs. At about four weeks you can start to make a gruel or mush of puppy food, Royal Canin "Baby Dog" has an excellent small kibble and it's a great food. You can add just a bit of water to make the mush or some of the formula.
By six weeks they should be off formula all together and eating their food without dampening. Unless they are a small breed.

Well, it likely was your fault, but I have to admit that I would probably do the same thing if I saw a puppy running loose. I have, actually, and I have caught large dogs as well, but they have come to me when called or coaxed and I did not scruff them, but put a leash on them instead. As for everyone saying that this pup is abnormal, perhaps it is just going through a fear stage. I had a huge mixed breed who was afraid of everything when she was that age,and I've also had a VICIOUS 3 week old pup: <<<

First you need to get a puppy milk replacer, NOT powdered milk, dogs cannot tolerate lactose and it doesnt have enough nutrients in it. You can buy puppy milk at any KMart or WalMart type store in the pet section. They will also have small bottles to feed them with. Second take them to the vet, they can show you the proper way to care for them. Puppies this young only urinate/defecate upon stimulation, which would normally be the mother licking them. After each feeding (which should be every 2-4 hrs depending on how they are acting) you should use a warm, wet cloth or cotton ball to gently rub their genital area until they are done going. Also make sure they have some where warm to be, a nice box or carrier with a heating pad and towel UNDER it works well. Be prepared for a lot of hard work and commitment, hand raising pups isnt easy.

I agree with CS... Esbilac is a good milk replacer for puppies. Definitely get advice from the vet. You'll have your hands full with 6!!! A heating pad under a blanket is the best heat source (they will NOT shock themselves!!!!), but it is best to get one that you can adjust the temperature on. Puppies cannot control how hot or cold they are. If it's too hot or cold they can die, and they do not know when they are too hot or cold. I have hand raised puppies and the easiest way is with special bottles & nipples for puppies/kittens. You should be able to get them from the vet. And yes, you will have to stimulate them to go potty for a while until they can control it on their own. Talk to the vet, they should be given de-wormer at 4, 6, and 8 weeks old. They should also start getting vaccinations - each person has a different schedule. I recommend giving a Parvo vaccine at 4 weeks old, then combo vaccines at 6 and 8 weeks - after that the new owners will take care of it. Good luck!

Bless your heart for taking care of the puppies.
You can get a puppie formula that you can mix and it is better for the puppies than milk and powdered milk.
They need to keep warm and clean. At their age their mom's lick their butts when they poop. After feeding them, take a towel and wipe their butts. In their box put some papers on the one end and on the other towels and blankets. And maybe put a hot water bottle in there to keep them warm. Perhaps a tick tock clock to make a noise like their mom's hearts. Don't handle them too much at first. They need to be handled carefully.
If this is more than you can do call your local animal society.

As they grow they will need a bigger box.

Well to start with a dropper is no goof you need to source the correct teat and bottle for the size pups you have.
Do not give them any more cows milk if that's what you are using. Go to the vet and buy some Divetalac or other puppy formula which is mixed with boiled water. They will be able to tell u how much to feed according to weight and age.
You also need to wee and poo the pups this is done by wetting some cotton wool with warm water and rubbing their bellies and genital areas to stimulate them to evaculate their bowel and bladder.
GO TO VET or else you will starve the pups to death

Several years ago a person dropped off 3 week old kittens to the vet clinic I worked at. I was in charge of their care. If I remember correctly, the vet had me mix evaporated milk, water and a egg. Though they did fine-its probably wiser to avoid dairy products, go with either a human formula or buy a puppy formula at a pet supply store. They will need to be fed about every 2 hours.

You will need to stimulate them to have a bowel movement, gently massage their bellies and with a towel gently massage their butts.

Start introducing mushed food at about 4 weeks-canned puppy food with the formula mixed. Eventally you can gradually mix in dry food, as you are doing this gradually reduce the amount of canned and formula. You will have to teach them to "lap"-hold them over the bowl with the food mixture on your fingers and bring it to the puppies faces-eventually they will start licking off off your fingers, remove your fingers, leaving them at the bowl, see if they will go solo. It may take a few times.

You may also want to put a stuffed animal-dog if you have one in with them to make them more comfortable.

WHat COINcidene! i have puppies too except they have a mom, my mum is a doctor so she knows how to deliver the puppies they opened their eyes yesterday >______________< anyways back to helping you. well according to my mom it's ok just as long as you got the right powdered milk I heard Farnam is a good brand especially for puppies that are just born. YOu should put them in either a box or a laundry basket with towels in it, and don't play or touch them too much, because it's bad for them, also make sure that they're in a warm place because puppies are usually with their moms. You have to give them a lot of milk right now because all they practically do is sleep and drink milk. good luck i hope my advice was of some help
