60th Birthday Gifts For Mom

Make grandma a video with clips from all of her monumentus occassions, including clips with her and her grandchildren (like the day they were born.) Put the clips to music, a song about a grandmother and her love for her grandkids (or some sentimental sounding song). There are companies that can do this for you. The tape my mom had made sucks though because of the elevator music so be specific about the song.

Make grandma a "Newspaper" page that includes a photo of her as a child and write on it all of the things she's accomplished in her life. Include her astological sign, Chinese symbol, and important historical events that she lived through.

Make grandma a "brag book" which is a small scrapbook album and pre-docorate it with pictures of the grandchildren or photos of her growing up.

Get her "bears in chairs" and include all 5 grandchildren in the figurine. I love these but they are pricey.

Print out a poem about grandmothers/mothers on some specialty paper and frame it for her.

Make a CD for her to listen to of all her favorite music.

Buy her a collectable plate from her time period: Flow blue plate, crackle glass things, etc

If she enjoys technological things, you could get her TIVO, an MP3 player, nintendo DS Lite system with Brain Age, new computer, etc. if she doesn't already have those things.

A lot of places have special jewlery for women for important birthdays.

You could get her some books or novels that you think that she would enjoy.

If she's the practical kind of person, which is like the hardest kind to shop for (my mom is one of those people) you could get her a very nice pair of shoes made specifically for comfort- a lot of women slack on the quality of shoes they buy because of price so do the splurging for her! I just answered a question earlier about shoes and I recommended Earth brand shoes.

Buy her a gift certificate for her and a guest of her choice to go to a Spa and get facials, massages and her hair/nails done.

What does she like? To eat, to wear, to do? How about a day at a spa for her and her best gf? Books? Movies? Would she like a membership at a gym or yoga classes, and the outfits to go with that? A big basket filled with a variety of easy-to-prepare really nice foods? The new car was a cool idea. By 60, most people have collected enough "stuff" so I try to give my older family members things that don't collect too much dust!

If she's like my mom she has every thing so I make basket up of snacks she likes, teas, hot cocoa, coffee, fruit or you could get a nice pen, some stationary, cards for holidays that she can send out on her own to friends, a address book, a book of stamps, address labels and put in a shoe box or a pretty hand made box. I'm sure your will find the right gift from the heart.

Throw a surprise birthday party! Rent a hall, catering, decorations! Invite a ton of friends and family. Get a band that plays music from the 50's & 60's. Instant success.

A family tree is nice too.

A department store gift card inside a Birthday card signed by all the family members, a dinner at a low profile restaurant and some flowers given to her at the restaurant.

Massage, pedicure, manicure gift certificates are usually a wonderful gift. Usually we older folks don't need more "stuff"!
A family picture or a photographer at the family party or reunion to take family pix. Have fun!

I agree with the male stripper thingy. Every woman has to have one for a birthday present once in her life. She's young enuf to get a kick out of it. Make it a public place. Like a bar. That's even more embarassing for her, and she'll have the time of her life being the center of attention. Make sure and take plenty of pictures and video.
