It sounds like you are trying to make a homebuilt or an ultralight rather then a glider. Although some gliders do have motors and then they turn them off when they actually want to function as a glider. I would suggest that you visit the EAA website http://www.eaa.org/ it is an organization that is dedicated to homebuilt aircraft, etc... I am sure someone on there will have the information that you are looking for.

Aerodynamics are in principle the same as a normal aircraft, but with a longer wingspan, thinner wings, and much more streamlining on the fuselage. Features such as winglets are often found
Any aircraft will 'glide' without an engine, although it tends to descend a lot faster
